thats exactly wut happened to me, but they still couldnt get it to fit the cutter due to the little bulky part that sticks out at the end of the key (without keyfob). the guy did his best but it looks like it wont work...
how did ur cutters get the key to fit so that cutting wouldnt have been a problem?

really? hmm the guy at ace hardware cut my key so that it looks similar to the original but very different. Since he ruined the key, I was going to tell him to pay for another one, but he told me earlier that it's against their policy to cut key blanks that are not their own (people are not allowed to bring in their own keys) because of lawsuits and other things. i guess my only option is to buy another one and hope for the best...

If he cut too much then I guess you're stuck getting a new one. It sucks, you can do anything about it. But atleast you know where NOT to take it to get it cut.

Man, I'm slow. I can't believe I've been missing this DIY for months. Any updates as to ebay links or suppliers? I noticed some of the links near the beginning of the thread are no longer working. No big deal since I'm sure there are plenty more where that came from.

Hey guys got all my stuff from ipearlg ( fast shipping from texas, Also very good guy to work with ) and just got my key cut today !!!! and it works great and also have a few of the Z guys from the area interested. The hardest part for me was getting the FOB back together after I put the guts into it..... the spring just kept popping out... ( i might be retarded though, so that doesn't help ) hah

I've had this setup for a few months and haven't looked back. Decided to check this thread since it is definitely a treasure on the net. I am grateful to the fellas that contributed to this fine piece of work.
ROFLMAO at the pic of the HD guy!
As for getting the key cut, I would not let any big box hardware store (or any hardware store, for that matter) perform the key cutting. I placed my trust in a professional locksmith (anytown USA has 'em). I only handed him the actual key and he did it on the first pass. Basically, he did it for a tip but I'd have paid him whatever he wanted. Of course, you have to give them a verbal waiver that they are not to be held responsible for our experiment. Don't even bring up the fob, let alone bring it with you, or you'll experience what that pic above shows .
