Don't feel bad if things don't go perfectly the first time you test out your new gears. Maybe the increased leverage your new gears provide will cause your car to overpower the slicks or something... who knows...
Have fun and stay safe!

BTW, awesome thread guys. It's been a while since I have seen such an informative thread.
I have been dying to get shorter gears in my 07. My old 97 M3 _seems_ faster, but it's not really. But it does rev through the gears faster. 2nd gear gets you to 62MPH in the M3. That shorter gearing is really fun.
The 07 gearing just seems WAY too tall. Still wondering why nissan did this... Was it so that traction loss wasn't such an issue? Fuel economy? I dunno.
Waiting to hear results. I appreciate the subjective feedback on the mod.

Here are the results guys
Had a fun time at the track and was able to improve my time. I will have to upgrade to a 27inch slick. I was hitting my 7200 rpm limiter right at the end of the 1/4.

I do think there is alot left in this setup. Everyone at the track was running slower than they normally run. I need to check out a faster track and see what i can do.

that sounds great, building it up little by little seems to be your method.
next step after cams with PnP should be individual throttle bodies peeking out of your hood hahaha
my qeustion though is just did you knotice any gains either on a dyno or just in feeling with the bored throttle body and larger maf? or did you combine those with other mods at once so you arent sure?

According to your calculated results based on 255/45/17, my tire setup at 285/35/18 would land me at ~102 Mph with the 3.917 FD with 6600 redline. I'd probably be shifting into fifth to avoid hitting the rev limiter in the 1/4.
Also...
I'm surprised you felt such a difference between the 3.917 and the 4.08x to say it is the best mod you have done. I skimmed through the thread so I may have missed something.

The 3.9's would be perfect matched with a 26inch slick and the 7200rpm redline. With the 4.08's i find that i need a 27inch slick. Which i will be installing on the car before i go back to the track.
