Updated the Main post with my new time from the track.. Ran a personal best of 13.064@105.50mph.
These gears are proving to be a nice addition.

That doesn't mean that the stock rods will be good for 8k RPMs though.

It's not the rods you're worried about at 8k rpms.

I've started hunting prices. 3 shops have said "you buy the alignment bearings and I'll do it for you. I proceed to realize alignment bearings cost a lot and go

I may even ask the dealer if they could do it. Worst case scenario they say no.

install generally should run in the $400-$600 range, depending on the hourly charge.
parts can be found here (though the 4.08 are currently backordered, eta this month according to nissan)

For those of you in Florida wanting the 4.08 gears, Lokey Infiniti in Clearwater is going to install mine. They don't install rear end gears often, but they do it occasionally. I don't know what the price is/will be.
I'm one of the people waiting for the gears to come in at Z1, so I'll let you know how things go as soon as I get them!

I wouldn't be getting them in until after Christmas (more needing the car than anything) but I definitely want to see what it could do (yay for daytime Test and Tunes in January )
If I haven't gotten a 12 by then I think it should be pretty easy re-geared and high's in the 50's or low 60's.

I got a quote from a local shop that does good work. Its really the only shop in town (including the dealer) that I would let touch my car. The guy has a 240z race car, among a few other Z cars that are race prepped, drives a Titan, etc.
$400 to drop the car off and the ring/pinion, pick it up in the afternoon. If the bearings can't be reused he said it would be $400 plus his cost +15% on the bearings. He acted like it all depended on how they pressed off (kindof random) so he gave me ~75% probability at reuse.
I think thats a great price, but thought I'd get an outside opinion - $75 an hour labor rate at this shop.
Thoughts?

There are some perishables involved in changing out the ring and pinion. The pinion Nut, pinion crush sleeve, and pinion oil seal should all be replaced with new items. You can buy these in a kit from Adam (Z1) for only $24.50. I would buy these at a minimum, especially the crush sleeve because the pinion depth might be different and the old sleeve might already be too small (collapsed too much).
Since the pinion bearings will have to be changed (moved to the new 4.08 pinion), there is a high likelyhood that they could be damaged. I would replace them too... but you probably might not maybe have to.
My car has 20,000 miles on it, plus I am putting in a new diff, so I'm going to replace all the bearings.
