Manual vs Auto Diff Side by Side Pictures
In case anybody was wondering what a side by side picture of the Manual 6 speed 3.538 diff and gears looked like compared to an Auto 3.357 diff and gears here you go. I put this together quickly and the text got a little screwed up when I re-sized it but you get the idea. Hope this helps for when I took them both apart it was nice to see a side by side look at the difference and did my best to show it in the photos.

I honestly don't know. I read somewhere that somebody said that all the auto's got a VLSD in them but don't know if that's true or not. Bought it for the Cusco RS LSD and it ended up being for an Auto but still using it for 3.36 with the Cusco RS in it is better than a 3.5 with an open diff!

Thanks for this thread. It helped me a lot. BTW I was fairly certain that all A/T diffs were VLSD. That's why I was in a quandary. I bought a complete "pumpkin" under the pretext that it was an '07 base diff. That would mean an open diff with equal length output shafts from what I've researched. I removed the output shafts only to find that they were unequal length! Because I was fairly certain A/T diffs were VLSD, I now had the possibility of wasted dollars for my project because it could possibly be an A/T diff and not a M/T VLSD (which would have been ok actually). I cracked it open and matched the numbers on the gear pictured above to the open diff, meaning it was 3.5. Ergo, I had the M/T VLSD pumpkin since the A/T pumpkin had 3.3 gearing. Whew!!!
BTW to the OP, did the A/T diff have unequal length output shafts? If not, I went through all this rigmarole because of bad info assuming the A/T's were all VLSD and therefore would have unequal length output shafts like the M/T VLSD.

Sorry for the delay. Yes, the output shafts were unequal length on the A/T diff but I don't know if it was a VLSD or open one though for when I got it the Cusco RS was already installed.
