Default 350z Base Cruise Control??

I bought my Z last year and this is my very first post! would like to say hello to all the Z owners out there and hope someone can shed some light on a question. I have an 08 Base Model and I was wondering if there was some way to install cruise control. Has anyone actually been successful? From what I gather, it's impossible. Some say it's been done but never follow up with any additional information. thanks in advance!

In the past it was said to be impossible. Recently it became proved not only possible but easy. There are two new threads on it and I suggest in the future you search.

Based on input from others I took the leap and put all the pieces together and have cruise.

Here is my thread:

oh nice! thank you very much! seems simple enough. When i started the search I ended up getting alot of garbage. I'll search a bit more next time before posting something unnecessary. thanks again, really appreciate it!

Nice write up.

Seems the parts are $150ish.. If I wasn't "tuning" my car and just needed the ROM to enable cruise control on a base 2008.. How much is it? Is it something I would need to go to a performance shop that has the tools to do so.. or is it something I can flash with a laptop or something similar?

Essentially, the work I can do no problem,.. just curious of total cost including the ROM. What I've read people are doing this when they are having their cars remapped,.. what if you are just doing the cruise control as a DIY in the garage project? Total cost =? And acquire ROM from?

Thanks!

You can't just get the rom, you have to purchase Osiris (ecu tune) as well. $500 for the reflash it yourself at home version, or however much the shop wants to charge you. You'd have to call a local Uprev protuner and find out their prices

The license is 300 and a full tune was 300 at the tuner I used in Tempe, Az.

He said he would do the cruise flash for much less and I am sure so would many others considering it takes under 10 minutes from when he gets in the car to when he is done.

Uprev also just recently started charging a $100 fee to add cruise to a non cruise rom, so that would be on top of whatever else you were charged

Uprev might but a tuner you have a relationship with that has been paid to do your tune would be a fool to pull that ish. Mine did it free during a followup baseline. FWIW I paid him over 1k during teh life of my Z (first tune with some bolt ons, second tune more bolt ons, stroker motor baseline & break in & tune etc)

He did it for free because Uprev didn't charge him an extra $100 for enabling cruise on your rom file. Now they're charging EVERYONE, protuners included, $100 for that special stuff. There's nothing a tuner can do in the rom to enable cruise, Uprev's engineers have to add it in for you.

He changed my rom to one that had cruise.

I am the one that started it, I installed the hardware and he added the rom & I had cruise.

Hrmm.. The "hard part" of spending the 45mins- 1hour with the $150 in parts to install the switches etc is not a problem. However, spending $500 or more just for a flash for cruise is not something that I would do.

If they said,.. ok.. we'll flash it for oh.. $100-150 .. I'd probably go for it.. from your posts doesn't seem like that is an option price wise though. I'll probably eventually modify the intake, throw on some exhaust,,.. and other "minor" bolt ons of that nature.. but nothing major -- So a remap is unlikely to be in my future where I'd then ask .. hey can you put cruise on that for me? (for x dollars).

If I do want to call around locally just for kicks.. what would I say to the shops if just asking for Cruise control flash on my car? Just.. "Hey, wondering what it would cost to flash my 2008 350Z Base model to Cruise?" ?

Thanks

The Osiris license costs $300 so there is no way it will cost less than that.

I cannot speak for any other tuners, the one I used said he would flash the rom without a license.

It is a computer people if you can communicate with it, you can do lots of things.

It has nothing to do with the tuner. You cannot reflash an ECU without an Osiris license. You purchased one when you did your initial dyno tune so you already had one.

He said he could and would just flash the rom to one with cruise. Sorry if that is a problem for you.

Its not a problem for me its physically impossible. You cannot reflash an ECU with an Uprev rom if it does not have an Osiris license on it. You have to either purchase a license for $300, or already have one. It has nothing to do with the cruise rom.

I never said he was doing anything with an uprev rom. He is replacing the Nissan rom.

Additionally I believe you mean there are uprev protections in place that make it difficult. It was "impossible" to have cruise on a base for years until it was not.

Well ok then. I assumed we were talking about using Osiris to do it
