Default $1200 rear bumper paint?!

Hello fellow 350z drivers a month or so back my side of rear bumper was scratched by someone in parking lot.. there are several scratches but nothing deep and no dents, it was a very slow contact as they were parking next to me , i got an estimate and it came to be $1160.00. This seems very steep and i want to know if im correct or should be expecting this from other paint shops??

Also recently i managed to scratch under the opposite side of rear bumper when pulling in driveway would this be more expensive? All the damage is on the bumper so i just want it repainted a quality matching black. How much will this cost? thank you😁🚗

It sounds high, but it depends on your area too. Ask around at other shops, you'd be stupid to only run off only one quote.

In my country i can get the bumper fully painted and fixed if needed and in good quality for just $90.

And for less than $700 i can paint the full car.

I don't understand why in USA is so expensive to paint cars.

No. You shouldn't expect anything if you haven't bothered asking. Chances are, the shop across the street will charge a similar amount, but the shop across town will charge differently.

Just recently had my rear bumper painted. The painting took 3.4 hours. I was charged 22/hr for paint supplies and 44/hr for paint labor but that was through my insurance. Plus an hour to remove/install the bumper @ 44/hr.
~Gives you an idea on time .

I also had "body labor" done I guess. Which was 3.5 hours, but my bumper was dented in multiple places and cracked a tiny bit.

How long would just the painting take? Also do they sand down the bumper than paint, if so how long would this process be?

All i can say is what I have already lol. I don't know the steps/process. Just the time they took and the price I was charged. Here is a pic of what they had to repair.

Hey Man - a bumper re-spray should not cost more that $500 - $600.

In Sacramento, a quality paint job for a bumper could be anywhere between $250-500.
$500 is actually considered over paying. $1160 sounds outrageous!

My guys in NJ charge about $2-300 a panel just for labor. That's prep, paint and polish! That quote is ridiculous

Blending nickel-size chip and re-clear in my area is around $1000.

No one has seen the damage. Based on OP's responses, he doesn't know much about body work. When he says "scratches, but nothing deep," I highly doubt that's the case. If the plastic has any marking without paint, they will charge a killing to level it out.

In the US you can get a OEM bumper replacement for about $400. I would pay $7-800 tops using a brand new oem bumper. Should be way less if refurbing the old banged up one

Most definitely high-balled the **** out of you. When I got my rear bumper fixed it cost me $500. And that was quality work at a highly reputable shop.

Ask the person that quoted you $1160= if you have STUPID written on your forehead? Even in my area $500 to $700 would be maximum...Gary
