Does painting a 350z depreciate value?

Please post some pictures when you get your Z back from the paint shop. It sounds like you are getting a Maaco or Earl Scheib paint job. Unless your paint quality is a lot better than those companies, your $900 paint job will make your car worth a lot less when you try to sell it.

We don't have a huge modified car scene, so that's usually the purpose in my area.

My wife's dad paid $1000 to have her accord painted a while back... They did absolutely no body work just painted the black car white... When you opened the hood or the trunk all the black was their reminding you what was done...
Granted it was a beater car so nobody really cared...
I towed a audi s5 the other day with straight up drips in the paint... I would be expecting that in the under $1000 price range.

Its all about the prep and less about the paint. Single stage paint can look great if done correctly.
That being said - for the money I doubt they will do a great prep job, and like others said might just shoot paint over everything.
Most of those Earl Schibe or Maaco type places dont even bother taping stuff off, they just point and shoot. A few years back a buddy of mine did all of the prep and primer work on his old z28, then trailered it to Maaco for the $199 "presidential special", and it actually came out pretty good. But like I said he did all of the hard work, they just shot the paint.
