Technically the 700 doesn't "hold" more power. The compressor wheel is capable of flowing more air therefore making more horsepower to the wheels.

Surprising enough,The 700BB turbos only have about 300 rpm more lag than the ultra fast spooling 530BB's ( I was skocked myself, cause turbo lag = )

It all depends on your HP goals. I'm told the 530's are maxed out at about 14 PSI. However, to even come close to 14 PSI, you have to build your motor. The stock motor (non-built) is probably good to about 9 PSI, so if you are neve going to build it, you should go with the 530's, as while the 700's spool very fast, they are just a bit slower than the 530's (as WA2GOOD states)

Me, I'm more than happy on my stock motor with the 530's at 6 PSI. I will probably at some point get bigger injectors, an AAM fuel return system, and a boost controller and go to 8 or 9 PSI, but I have no plans to build the motor, and will stop there.

My JWT TT G is great for daily driving with the 530's; they spool instantly, and give me more than enough power to pass whoever I want to. Other than that, I could never see myself driving a 20 PSI boosted turbo monster that can spin the tires at the tap of the throttle.

wow, great input guys. If there aren't any downsides to the 700, I prolly go with that. I'm definitely rebuilding and don't want to have any 'what ifs' later. can you even notice a 300rpm lag? That sounds pretty minor..

It is very minor, I was impressed at how well, and how long the 700's pull for compared to the 530's, and I was a big fan of the 530's. I thought the 700's would be so laggy and overwhelming, but they are great and worth the extra cost. built motor is a must though....

Well, the downside is the 300 rpm lag. Mostly not noticeable, but it is there.

You really need to decide on your ultimate goals before you start. If your goals are to eventually go to 18/20/30/500 PSI, then yes, go with the 700's, no doubt abut it. If you are sure your ultimate goals are to stay below 14 PSI, then go with the 530's, as long as you are sure.

I really am sure that my ultimate goals are below 14 PSI, which is one reason why I went with the 530's. You can get a very powerful car on the 530's. Check out Eagle1's G35 over on G35driver, he has the 530's (I think), and tracks his car on a regular basis and is very satisfied with the 530's. I think his whp is low 500's, but WA2GOOD would know better, as they are the ones who built his G.

But it is ultimately up to you, and by knowing the pros/cons of each, you can make a good decision.

I don't really feel the lag at all, as it as responsive as I could ever want my Z to be. I have not driven one with the 530s, but as a passenger I didn't feel any lag with either.

With the 700/s I feel that 6500 rpm is not sufficent to appreciate its full potential, as the darn thing wants to keep going.

It would seem that the 530s are well matched with a stock motor.
