Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they also have to go through the process of getting approval and a corresponding C.A.R.B number to be legal? If it was just a matter of passing the sniffer test everyone with cats would be legal.

I don't understand how OBDI cats covers HFC. These are two completely different things. As long as the Cats pass smog. They are legal. CA can't and won't put a regulation on a name. That is all "High-flow Cats" are, is a name. It's not like they went through he magnaflow catalog and said "that looks illegal". It is all based on emissions and smog tests.
And yes, any old HFC that won't pass the new standards can be sold for "off-road use only".
I'm not trying to say FastIntentions is trying to use a scare tactics for end of the year sales, but it does look like it was headed in direction.
Besides OBDI and OBDII has to do with how the car reads it sensors, not how things are built. If a catalytic converter is built in such a way that does not throw emissions codes and passes the current smog standard, then it is legal.

I went to a seminar held by Magnaflow and this is what we were told. This came down from CARB (California Air Resource Board)! As of January 1st. 2009 all OBDI cats will be illegal to sell in the state of California! Now you can change the cats on these cars but A) The current cat on it has to be damaged and B) the replacement has to be application specific.
The Metallic cats that we use are universal. I hope that I cleared this up for you...
Thanks, Tony

Sounds like an easy loophole to be made is to have your product have its own Cat No. or whatever. How are your cats not vehicle specific? They are as Vehicle specific as any OEM cat. The damage cat easy is so easy to get around I shouldnt even have to type it here. I imagine any company making enough off these products to live off of, could find a lawyer savy enough to come up with a work around.
