Could this be the same problem that you guys are having:
https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...-its-cold.html

I can't get my car to run reliably during the cold months and it rarely starts unless I pop the clutch in 2nd gear.

Make sure on the 2004 350.. when you replace the cam shaft sensor bank 1 that is on the battery side of the engine ...yes its the one in the back... Have a deep socket 10mm to get at the bolt and still its tight. Just changed mine, Went to start it and Sweeeeetness, problem solved..O yea as some say the plug is green...mine was not and she is stock.

So should there not be oil on it? If it comes out and has oil, what's the remedy for that?

I've removed the passenger side sensor from two different 350Z's tonight and both had oil on them. I'm assuming the oil is okay.

Anyone have any insight?

Not sure what you're asking about the oil being okay. You mean the levels? If there is oil on the sensor, that wouldn't necessarily tell you about the oil level, just check the dipstick if that's what you're asking.

What error are you having? After all of my troubleshooting on my Z before I sold it, I feel as though I'm an expert on cam/crankshaft sensor issues lol

I was referring to the post above me. I was letting him know that with my small amount of experience with these cam sensors that they have both been wet after removing them.

Expert huh?

I might have to PM you in the near future about my issue. lol

Mine were not, but the vehicle was low on oil to begin with - which may have caused them to fail.

What issue are you having?

Here is the thread I started. I tried to take some ohm readings from the camshaft sensor that was in my replacement motor and out of my blown engine but i don't know if I'm doing it properly. After all I am getting the same readings from both like sensors. Which make me think it is the driver side can sensor. Which I will hopefully be able to unplug here in the next hour or so after I remove the intake plenum.

A lot of things can cause this... see this thread for some additional steps. When it comes to sensors, the best thing you can do is swap them out with a known good working one from the other car.

Always make sure when buying replacement sensors, that you buy OEM, not from Autozone or anything like that.

I completely agree but the only problem is that I am having trouble disconnecting the Cam Positioning Sensor harness plugs. I am determined to get this done by tonight.

To get to bank 2(driver side), you can either:
A: Unhook the air intake and remove from the car, and reach in from that side, or
B: Stand over the driver side of the front of the car and reach around the back of the engine with your left arm(you need to know where you're reaching first and don't do it when the engine is warm)

To get to bank 1(passenger side), you should be able to reach in fairly easily from the passenger side of the vehicle.

Easiest way that I've learned, is get a flathead screwdriver to press down onto the retaining clip, and pull GENTLY on the wires behind the plug. I say this because the wires are flexible and will allow for you to shift your wrist while pulling... and as long as you have the retaining tab depressed properly, it won't apply too much tension on the wires before the plug pops off.

Guys,
I had this problem earlier in the week and got the mechanic to fix it...he said i had to replace all 3(camshaft sensors) ...he said something that they all work together...so my bill was like $520........wish i had done some research on the net or found this forum first...

i have a 2003 model ....the major repairs over the years that cost $ were the windows not rolling up or down($200 in 2008), alternator dying($170 in 2010), and now this.

i'm not mechanically inclined to have repaired this myself, so i didn't have a problem paying him to do it, but what bothered me was when he said i had to replace all 3...that was weird.
