Hey guys, my SES light just came on 2 days ago and I took it to Advance Autoparts so they could tell me the error code. The error code was described as 'Camshaft Position Sensor'.

I called my dealer and am going to have them take a look at it. Since the warranty on the Z for Powertrain coverage is 60 months or 60,000 miles, (which I haven't exceeded yet), is the 'Camshaft Position Sensor' covered by this warranty? If not, how much should I expect to pay for it?

 

Check and see if there is a appropriate service bulletin.

What does your warranty say about internal engine components?

 

I just paid for 3 new cam sensors, $106...

 

Probably not covered. That little manual that came with your Z know as the Warranty Manual contains the following section under "For How Long and What Is Covered":

ENGINE
Cylinder heads and block and all internal parts, rocker
covers and oil pan, valve train and front cover, timing chain
and tensioner, oil pump, water pump and fuel pump, fuel
injectors, intake and exhaust manifolds and supercharger,
flywheel, seals, and gaskets.

Pretty much nothing electrical is covered (alternator, sensors, etc.)

which bank is broken? It should say it in the code.

bank 1 is on the battery side, bank 2 is on the brake ms side (usdm models) Bank1 takes 10 minutes to replace. If youve got a 3/8 ratchet and a 10mm deep socket youre set. Bank 2 takes about 30-45 mins. You have to remove the intake and throttle body. Then all youll need are a 10mm deep and your 3/8" drive. Do not let the dealer jerk you around with their obscene labor cost. Be sure to disconnect the battery before working. Once done, do the technosquare ecu reset.

 

Hey man, i just bought an 03 350z and the check engine came on... my computer show ho2s bank 2 sens 2 (i think is that is the one after the cat on the brake side) and the other code is heather circuit low, wich i have no idea of what this is...

I bought the bank 1 sensor last night from the Nissan Dealership ($87) and the part guy told me it was the passenger side sensor. So I took it home, and installed it. (Looking at the engine on the left side) turned the car on, and the SES light was still on. I called a friend who works at a Goodyear and he told me to try disconnecting the battery and see if that help. But I have remote start on my car, if I disconnect the battery and then reconnect it, will that cause a problem with my remote start? I thought maybe the sensor was installed on the wrong side, and should be on the intake side, but it said BANK 1 and according to this post, it's the left one, correct? I have an 04 Enthusiast, Automatic. Any adivce? Thanks.

 

are the sensors all the same? they were the same part numbers, but i need 4 for my revup

 

im throwing the bank a sensor, im assuming this on the left side. im reading that it is on the back as well. can anyone describe what it looks like when it's installed so i can make a decision on whether or not i should try this myself or take it to a mechanic?

 

Do it yourself. A bit of a pain to reach but not all that bad. One hour max when I did mine - need to remove the intake tube leading to the throttle body for access. Back side of the drivers side on the head. Connector can be a bit of a ***** to pull - If I remember right you have to push in on it and then pull the connector off rather than just pushing down on it. Usual 10 mm bolt to remove the sensor. About $70 for the part at the dealer. Oh yeah, disconnect your battery first!
And the left and right sides are different so make sure you get the Bank A sensor.

 

ok well i took care of it. Bank A is actually on the passenger side, so it was an easy fix. Just wanted to throw this reply up there so anyone else reading this knows that Bank A is on the PASSENGER side. Thanks for your help poster just above me. I'm glad I did it myself. It's a super easy fix.

For anyone else reading this that may be having the issue, the sensor was connected through a green connector, impossible to miss, on the passenger side of the back of the engine. One 10mm bolt, and I used vice grips to pop the sensor off the connector once I removed the bolt and the solenoid. Vice grips are perfect because the connector actually locks and pops the sensor off. Once I put the sensor back and and tightened the bolt, the connector popped back on no problem. An easy fix. I'd take pics but this was an easy fix, if you follow my descriptions, you should have no problem.

 

I'm having this issue now..will try to find that sensor.

I took Zena to the Stealership and they said that it would be around $250 to do. Go thing I did a search to find out the details. She had a problem code of P0340. The local auto parts store said $58 for the part and now I know how to replace it. Thanks guys.

 

still confused. my z was throwing a code camshaft position sensor A bank 2. advanced auto parts was selling me an angeled sensor which i believe is for the passngr side sensor and a straight sensor for drivers side. which sensor do i need to replace and what kind, angled or straight sensor? pls help thnx..

 

bringing the thread back from death...guys im troowing same code, ive read on here, and been looking for the sensor, i cannot seem to find but 1 green connector towards the front of the block, and im pretty sure its not the CPS, is it located directly in the back or off to the side? any help would be much helpfull.

btw im throwing both codes for both bank 1 and 2
