Default ball joint health question

hi all,

i am in the middle of changing all my front bushings, and finally got the damn compression rod off. i had a case of the clunks on my driver's side

there is a little bit of play in the ball joint, only up and down, but not left and right. is this normal?

i tried to find out but a lot of the google results tell you about in-car driving symptoms and not the actual technical failure explanation

i have not done the other side yet (long story short the bushing race is rust-seized on to the stud), but basically my question is as follows; is this diagram accurate? lol

thanks in advance!

edit:
the passenger side ball joint has no play, and also the factory service manual says under Front Suspension Service Data that ball joints should have 0 mm axial end play

so does that mean i'm out another $60?

edit2:
lots of people say the moog/dorman/aftermarket arms are garbage and the ball joints fail within weeks (to a few months)
but the oem ones cost $180 usd ****

Mines is on it's way out. grease is oozing out of the boot. What did you end up getting? I'm thinking about getting these ones

i decided to leave the compression rod alone for now (have to get whole arm, is best to buy OEM as the aftermarket compression rods from dorman/moog/etc. seem to fail quickly as per amazon reviews)

but i also had a lot of wiggle and stud spinning on the lower control arm ball joints that sit in the hub. so i got a pair of those from amazon

have not installed them yet
