Your not gonna have much luck doing anything yourself because it's probably a dynamic IP and most ISP only keep IP 's leas for a week or 2. If he/she turned off his PC before the lease expires someone else could have grabbed the IP.
The only recourse you have is to contact the ISP and let them figure it out. They can track by who had that IP on the date in question.

Hey Dave, I'm a Network Engineer with Sun Microsystems. I talked this over with a couple of our security folks, and it was unanimous that a) if you did try to do something and the original hacker became aware of it, you would certainly bring further retaliation, and b) since this is an overseas IP, reporting to the FBI is basically useless. The best thing to do now is damage control, and security audit. If you've done those, move on and get cozy in the dangerous world of cyberspace!

Hmm, It looks very simular to a virus that was going around a while back. If so it's fairly harmless except for the fact that when it hits a PC it resends itself out to everyone in that PC's address book and so on & so on. It can cripple a corporate exchange server fairly quickly.
We actually got hit (about 60 PC's out of 12,000). The emails reflected as from admin@companyname.com.
