The grass is always greener on the other side.

If you did your research before hand into the pricing on the car in your area, and at the time you felt you were getting a good deal, then you probably were imho.

After you buy something, you will ALWAYS find one cheaper, or hear about it being cheaper from someone.

It sucks, I know =P

But whats important is if you enjoy the car.

I bought mine in mid 2003, I didn't pay the lowest, and I didn't pay the highest. But the service the sales guy gave me was WORTH paying practically MSRP at the time.

I mean, the guy did all the paperwork, gave me an awesome deal on my trade in, got me the exact model/make/trim/options that I specified, in less than 2 weeks, picked up my old car at my work, and dropped off my new Z at the same time.

(Little Tokyo Sales and Leasing btw...)

I paid after tax, $37,000 for a Touring with side airbags, Nav and Aero package. The guy threw in the seat back organizer, mats and cargo netting for free... oh yeah, and The Run dvd =P

If you had to struggle to find the one you wanted, but found it, then any deal is fine. Enjoy the car.

This isn't a deal I would have done. Here's why:

1. You bought a car that is two years old.
2. You bought a first MY car with known issues (not this car necessarily, but the '03's in general)
3. You paid just $1,750 less than the MSRP on a brand new '05 Performance.

It's good that the car has low mileage, the downside is that feathering won't have surfaced yet if this car does have it.

As long as you're happy with the car, that's what really counts, but me personally, I would have saved my pennies for another month or two and bought new. You probably only have 18 or even fewer months left on the 36 month warranty despite the low mileage.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the private party resale-value on this car is roughly $27,200, but the dealer sales price was 30K and change. I just don't see it for a two year old car that sold new for almost the exact same price. I guess they were right when they said the Z holds it's value.

Again, if you're happy with it, it doesn't matter what any of us think. It's all about the fun!!! Enjoy.

Fudge man. You're here in Portland too? We'll have to hook up. I've got a Super Black 03 Track.

I've seen prices vary a lot but here in Portland Z's are tough to come by. Dealers have them but not many and they aren't too willing to move them. If you're happy with the car, you got a decent deal.

Where'd you get yours? I went to Beaverton Nissan.

yeah it's a Touring.
Not too good of a deal for a 03 model, not to mention it doesn't have Nav.
Get a new one for just a tad bit more.

Well you bought the car. If you're looking for a good deal then perhaps you're doing things slightly backwards.

In the end if you paid what you could afford and got the car you want you should be happy.

I dont want to discourage you, but I would have gotten an 05 Enthusiast for about the same price.

Ya that doesn't look or sound like a performance, but rather a touring.

I don't think he got a bad deal. Definitely not a bargain, but it's a fair price. First of all it's only 04 so the car is only 1yr old...yes the new models are out, but dealers have plenty of 04s left. Second, the car only has 1600 miles...that's practically brand new. Third he bought from a dealer, so if he has a problem/issue he can always take it back. Lastly, he got a touring for almost $5k under the new price...that's not bad for a dealer car with 1600 miles.

As for the 03 vs 04 vs 05 stuff...it's all crap. 04.5 cars still have feathering. 05 cars have window issues. Even the newest tranny (008) continues to be notchy and clunk on the 1-2 shift. It saddens me that Nissan hasn't improved these flaws, but 04/05 owners need to realize that their cars are flawed as well.

Ask any dealer in the country how old that '03 Z is and they'll tell you it's two years old, especially if it went in service in late '02.

Second, the car only has 1600 miles...that's practically brand new.
You're right, that's very low mileage, even if the car was only 6 months old, but one has to ask the question, why is the car being sold with so few miles after *at least* 1 year of prior ownership.

Third he bought from a dealer, so if he has a problem/issue he can always take it back.
It depends on where he lives as to whether this is available, and the "bring it back" option is usually good for 3 or 4 days, so that doesn't really mean much.

Lastly, he got a touring for almost $5k under the new price...that's not bad for a dealer car with 1600 miles.
He got it 5K under MSRP, but nobody pays that, so he really probably paid about 2 or 3K under actual cost for a touring. All I'm saying is that for 2 or 3K more, I would have held out for a car that has the full balance of warranty, has had two years of design improvements, and has been driven by nobody else. That's just me, and as I and others have said, as long as he's enjoying the car, it doesn't really matter.

Yep, the cheapskates don't seem to understand that. They just see dollar signs. I gladly paid MSRP to get my car, and I don't regret it even when I see people posting how they stole their Z from a dealer.

Cheapskate? Completely uncalled for. Negotiating for the best price and/or doing things differently than you would choose to do them does not a cheapskate make. If you let the dealer pad his pockets with hundreds or even thousands of your dollars because you willingly bent over and paid MSRP, that's your issue. That 1 or 2K you could have saved had you negotiated a little would have bought you some nice mods. I get the same smile on my face when I get in my car that you do, mine just didn't cost as much. It personally was worth my time to push on the dealer to give me a good deal because it ultimately paid for my GReddy EVO2 exhaust and RT Cats.

Since I was the first "negative" post (even though it wasn't really negative, and the OP *did* ask for honest opinions), let me reiterate that I didn't say it was a BAD deal, I just said that I didn't think it was a steal, or the course of action I would have taken.

Rolling: It's good that you have the extended protection. I hope you don't run up against what one of my co-workers is facing. He had an o-ring go bad in his transmission (on a 4-runner). The extended warranty he bought only covers parts, not labor. The o-ring cost like $3, the labor to replace it is in the neighborhood of $1100, so the warranty he bought just saved him a whole $3. Typically, extended warrantys aren't a great deal, but had I bought the car you bought, I probably would have purchased the Ext. warranty as well. Seriously, enjoy the car. I hope you ended up with one of the '03's that doesn't have issues (just the same as I hope I ended up with an '04 that has no issues )
