Default Hatch Storage Space Question

Does anybody have the dimensions of the storage space in front of and behind the bar?

It will be much easier to justify this car if a suitcase bigger than a overnight carry-on will fit in one of the two spaces. I just measured my suitcase. 18Wx30HX12D.

Make me happy If you know where I can find some measurements, that would be great.

I drove an auto G35C this weekend, and want a reason that I don't have to have that extra space on occasion. The G35C was a nice car, but the auto didn't feel a whole lot stronger than my large supercharged Grand Prix GTP. I'm sure it is, but not by a second like I'd hoped (GTPs were doing 0-60 in about 6.6 when they came out). Also, I didn't like the seat fit as much as the Z. For some reason, the bottom of the Z seat feels slightly wider.

If my big suitcase would fit on one side of the bar, I'm sure smaller stuff would work on the other, with random junk in the front seat if I really had to have more junk.

Default if it helps

I took my z to niagra falls a few weeks ago with the wife and pet.
We took 2 suitcases along with a couple small duffle bags.
One suite case was a large one with wheels and handle, this one went in the large section of the hatch.
The other one was not quite as deep but still good size, I put this one under the strut in the smaller part of the hatch. I put the small duffle bags on each side of the larger suitcase.
The pet stayed were it allways does in my wifes lap.

Would you say your large suitcase is similar in size to the one I mentioned?

I've seen a couple of the Zs around, but never really thought to measure and see. I suspect I would have no problem, but just want to know. Gotta find a Z in inventory and see, I suppose.

Thanks for the response.

why are you worrying about storage space in a z? z's are for pure sport, you should've bought a van if you want storage space

Thanks for that productive comment. I'll remember that when the next cupholder or sun visor comment comes up.

Some of us occasionally go to the airport to either go on a nice vaction, or to travel to help pay for our cars. I also might drive across the state to see the family on occasion, or go hiking in the mountains. Seeing as how people I might see on any of these types of trips probably would like me to not be stinky in wrinkled clothes, luggage is something I just have to deal with on occasion.

All these negative comments to my simple question hopefully make you guys feel really superior, because they aren't helping me much. If space isn't a concern, I'm sure you are all riding some kinda sport bike, 'cause hey, isn't it all about performance?

I've had everything from Vettes, Porsches and trucks. Storage space isn't the final decision making factor, but since the G35C is pretty close to the Z, if I couldn't haul simple luggage, I might go that route. I doubt it is an issue 95% of the time, which is why I'm leaning Z.

Edit: If you were asking a legitimate question, I apologize. I'm not planning on hauling a lot, but enough clothes and junk for a week in a big bag, plus misc other stuff might be needed every month or two. I'd just simply like to know if that will work. It sounds like it will, but I'd be curious if I could get specific dimensions. I couldn't find them in my web search, just a standard cubic feet spec.

Get off him already! It's a legit question...he just wants to know if a particular peice of luggage he typically uses is going to fit. I'll admit I didn't buy my Z for traveling with the kids, but I would like to take some weekend trips with my wife without having to install a hitch to tow a trailer or put on some ugly roof rack! Mannishboy, I would answer your question, but don't have mine yet. Sorry. You'll have to put up with some crap, but I'm sure someone will take the time to give you an honest answer. If it's any consolation, I believe you can easily pack enough for two for an extended weekend...but you may have to buy new luggage to take the best advantage of the space allowed if your current ones don't fit.

I believe you are right. Thanks for the comment. Just trying to get some specifics I had no idea this was a controversial question. Message boards are really great most of the time, but sometimes...

This doesn't completely answer your question, but maybe it will help? It took a while to find this, but I remembered seeing it posted back in June or July.

I'm also tired of the "If you have to question, buy a (whatever) replies".

Let me know if you want/need another dimension, or can;t figure out what a picture is showing. Also, the width of the tape measure is 3".

General rear area pic.

hey sorry for my harsh comment, i've see a z parked and i looked in the back and he had all kinds of stuff back there, I actually think you'll be able to fit some things back there, or you could just put them on the seat if you are traveling by yourself
