Default Is the Z just a noisy car in general (interior noise)?

When I got my '03 Track w/4K miles it had already feathered the 040s a little; I replaced them all around at 6K with Yoko ES100s (reimbursed by Nissan for fronts) and got the free dealer align.

As I was driving home on the new tires, the car didn't seem much quieter. Now I'm at 11K miles, and the fronts don't seem to have feathered much (I was hoping ES100 tread pattern would resist feathering).

So is the Z just an all-around noisy car, period? I don't know if the Track has any less sound-deadening, but mine has always been pretty noisy inside, even with new tires.

I didn't buy expecting a luxury car; so noise doesn't bother me much.

It's very quiet for me....No sound when windows are up. Mine is 2005 so i guess all the seals are still in good shape.

yeah the Z is definately on the noisy side. even worse in the rain. also the noise on concrete roads versus smooth blacktop. the majority of the noise for me seems to come from the hatch area. i have tried doing some general fixes like some dyna-mat, helped a little. also i bought some cheap dollar store egg crate foam, the stuff for your bed, and doubled it up on itself to create sort of an air pocket area to deaden the noise, and stuffed the rear spare tire well with it and that reduced alot also. not a bad fix. cheap too!!

How do you like the ES100s? I'm thinking of buying those next spring to replace the stock 040s. Better traction, treadlife, comfort, roadnoise?

Excuse my rant...

ITS A SPORTS CAR......

You want quiet, buy high end sedans from Lexus, BMW and Mercedes...

Have you ever driven a Ferreri or Lambo? They are extreamly noisey, price you pay for a light fast car. Insulation adds weight, and low profile tires are noisey to begin with..

I bought them because I felt the "diagonal" tread pattern might help prevent feathering; that may be true but it's probably a little early to tell.

A colleague of mine who knows cars better than I (I'm really a motorcycle guy first and foremost) says the ES100s should wear very well.

Compared to the 040s, the ES100s feel like they have a slightly less stiff sidewall, and are a little less "precise" in steering. But, like I said, I'm really a motorcycle guy...cornering in any car basically sucks!

And the ES100s aren't THAT quiet, or I wouldn't have posted this topic in the first place.

But they're fine for my needs, YMMV.

Default Perhaps you missed my last sentence...

...so I'll repeat it.

I've had both. The G35 is better, but not to the degree that you're expecting.

It's quieter, a bit smoother in ride, but still rough for a luxury. I think it was a good combo of the two though.

Ya the G35 leans toward performance, so it lets in more noise then say a high end BMW or Lexus. Most the time road noise is not bad if you keep the car stock, but soon as you add new rims with low profile tires, the noise level will usally go up....

I agree with grifferjr on the noise location. Most of it seems to come from behind me. I was thinking it might be the wheel wells. When I did my stereo, we Dynamat'd the entire interior from the doors back, and it made little difference in noise. (Not that Dynamat is really made for noise reduction... it's made for vibration damping.) Perhaps some of the sound is coming in through the storage compartments behind the seats? The wheel wells seem like a likely culprit, though.

My friend has a few 70's 260/280Z's, after getting out of his car and getting into mine, the cars noises sound very similar. Its a bit on the noisey side, I actaully thought something was wrong with te car when i very first bought it, but now i think it what gives the car its character.

I have had my touring for about 2.5 months. Recently I noticed that when I rev hard the b-pillar have a slight vibrating sound. Doesn't seem to be causing any problems though.

Still love the car like it's my child.

It's all relative. When I am driving my IS300 I feel like: "damn, why's there this road noise and how come it feels stiff on some of the bumps etc." Then I drive the Z and same questions arise. Then I go back to the IS300 after awhile of driving the Z and it's like: " Damn, this thing is like a limo, why the hell is it so cushy? blah, blah, etc."

So yes the Z is a bit noisier, however not to the point of being punishing.

Hehe. I thought the same thing going back and forth from my A4 to my Z. My A4 was heavily modified: stiff suspension, wider wheels, turbo upgrade, exhaust, everything. I thought it was pretty rough and loud after all that. After buying my Z and driving it around for a while, I got back in my Audi. The thing felt like a Cadillac. Cracked me up. My girlfriend said the same thing, and she was saying my Audi was a bit too rough prior to that.

The Z is pretty loud in terms of both engine noise esp. when revved and road noise. I lined the trunk w/Raammat but it didn't help. I don't feel like ripping open the doors and lining them (or having someone do it).

My Max is so much quieter in comparison.
