I hope they do come out with a 4.0 and I hope it fits right into my Z. Oh ya, Amen!

Yes, but the point he's making is that it's coming from Nissan, not an aftermarket company.

It seems pretty believable to me that the VQ40 is going to infiltrate the rest of the Nissan/Infiniti line, much the same way that the VQ35 displaced the VQ30.

It gives Nissan a cheap and easy path to maintain the advantage in the HP war for all of its models.

However, one has to wonder as to what is going to happen to the vehicles like the FX45 if Nissan does deploy the 4.0L. An FX40 would really be stepping on the toes of its supposed big brother.

I didn't think this was a big secret. If I'm not mistaken, the 4.0 is a stroked 3.5, nothing more. I could be wrong the way I heard it, but I don't think so.

Still slightly stroked, with a better bottom end...
I wonder if this CarMode stuff is rumor or does someone have an insider edge.

Sure, there is speculation from the new 4.0 in the pathy and Xterra, but those are stroked for sure.

Hmmmmm.... to get the 05' track or the 06' 4.0..

i believe out currently 3.5L is a bored out 3.0L so to even bore it out even more to make it a 4.0L it sounds a bit dangerous.

No. The VQ is a new design (well somewhat new). the 4.0 is stroked, not bored.

This is interesting, subscribing so I can keep up with this. And to all of you wanting a TT model, I seriously doubt Nissan will go this route again, why do you think the Z32 TT was a failure? They wanted about the same car they have now...the 350Z, affordable for the performance, when the 300ZX TT came out it took away the affordable part and they did not do as well as expected. I would throw the TT idea out.

BTW, about the 4.3L stroker kit by AEBS, i'm sure a lot of people would agree with me, a 4.0L from the factory wouldn't lose the top end like the AEBS 4.3 liter stroker would (I believe it is the top end you lose, maybe it was the bottom end, correct me if i'm wrong) and Nissan would warranty this, seems like Nissan could attract some new buyers with a V8 as well. Overall, I like the idea.

you can't have a high revving 4 liter v6 . It's almost inpossible, that would have faster engine speeds that s 200 and those engines are strong. PLUS you won't make any more power f you rev till 8 grand because the storke is so much that the friction that the piston has with the cylinder walls will be a lot.

You could do 3.8 liters and not stroke it and just bore out the engine like porches do it, but torque will not increas, mostly horespower, because torque comes from the amount of compression and compression is a funtion of the stroke. The harder and more the Expanding nitrogen pushes down in the pistons the harder and more that translates into torque that spins the crank and the driveline.

So to get 4.1 liters which is how charge the engine displacest, they won't call it a 410 Z, and rev high they would have to make the bore huge and the stroke around the sam, and then the pistons would be huge and the deck would have to be solid because the cylinder walls would be so thin there would be no space for it to be left open or even semi open. And then the cylder walls would be paper thin and the engine would not be that strong.

so the moral is they mut bore and stroke it meaning that it cannot rev that high. It can probably get to about 7 grand with reinforeced valvetrain but that's it.

Now our 350 z is the one that can rev tilll 8 grand and i am pissed htat is doesn't, it wold be sick, it has to potential to make 350 hp but at the same time, to make power up that high you would have more aggressive top en cams, unless you get the new vc pulleys with 15 degrees more range of lift.

But then exaust side valve timing would be a huge asset. for torque on the low end. But camshafts suck anyways! SSSHHHHHHHH! Top secret stuff! Anyways with a car this heavy you need low end to get it moving, so that's why nissan is boring it out and stoking it. It's exactly what happened with the other z's so all you conservative traditionalis z people here's a repeat of 20 years ago, with 240-260-280-300 , now its 350-400. PEace out! and prosper!

3.5 liters is now yes, but this post is talking about later , like in 2006. actally, imagine 400z single turbo, wow! 500 horsepower easy with low boost. And mods would be more bang for buck, and they can't raise prices because the same mods can be used from the 350z. But trading a car in is expensive, just get the engine!

YES, good point!

History shows Nissan has always increased Z's displacement.

4.0.........400z would be sweet!!!

Still, no way in hell I'd trade my 350z
