Default Curb Weight

Has anyone ever check their Z's weight on their registration paper? I recently checked mine and it's 3330 lbs! A far cry from the 3225 lbs for the Track model! I was always under the assumption that the curb weight quoted from the factory should be the correct weight at the time of registration.

Any thoughts?

I think there must be a reason for that. I dont know what it is. hard to believe its off by 105lbs...

I wanna get my Z on a tractor trailer weight scale, theres one up to the north between me and tenn, might give it a shot soon, the drive up there in a Z would be good fun as well.

Sounds good. Let me know what you find if you decide to do it .

Maybe the weight of the vehicle included a 105 lb person in the car

Interesting. My ITR weighed 2558 pounds with no driver a 1/4 tank of gas and all the stuff still in it -- about 120 pounds UNDER what Honda says -- likewise my 99 M coupe which is supposed to tip the scales at 3131 is 2967 with the same conditions. (both of these weights were taken on a 3 grand corner balance setup and are accurate).

The listed weights it seems are generally not accurate, let's hope some of the Z's turn out to be a bit lighter than Nissan claims.

hmmm, intersting. The reported curb weight from the factory usually include all the fluids and full tank of gas. So, where the heck did this 100+ lbs come from !

I weighed my base Z at the track with no spare and a 1/4 tank of gas. It weighed in at 3165 without me. With a full tank of gas it should weigh around 3300lbs.....Just my input.

Corner weighted my Track model with no spare, jack, and a 1/4 tank of gas this weekend at Summit Point:

872 865

704 696

Total: 3137

With me in it: 3286

This is almost too good to be true for a production car. The diagonal weights are 1lb off a perfect 50:50. You must have been very surprised. I'm shocked you didn't comment on this because this is probably the most fantastic news yet.

suddenly the base isnt the lightest? perhaps a quarter tank of gas is variable. but none the less, this is intriguing news indeed.

Maybe the scale wasn't calibrated.

This was no cheap scale... Many thanks to Alex Ratcliffe for letting me use it. And yes, it was calibrated and tared.

Yes, I am a skimpy 149lbs (and over 6' too)... all that beer seems to have no effect on my belly (or lack thereof).

oops, I didn't spot that. I'm so use to corner wgt balancing with me in the car. I though it was too good to be true.

If Hedonist can't do it again with him in the car then I will do it in January when I get my track model (minus the Nav). I weight 190lbs with clothes on I'm interested to see how close the factory got it.

FWIW, ChinaClipper weighed the spare tire in his Track and it was a whopping 41lbs! Also, Nissan lists the Shipping Weight as 3099lbs in the Certificate of Origin. This is what the DMV used when I registered/titled mine.

Michael.

Also, gas weighs roughly 7lbs/gal.

Good stuff old fellow!

BTW: I'm going to be at the THSCC VIR Full course event in February with my Z if you want to join me. I don't think they have posted the event yet so watch this space.

Is there a good way to reduce the understeer of the stock setup on a track like VIR?
