Angry Base Z = no traction =needs LSD

I bought an 05' base a few weeks ago....I'm starting to get concerned about the "no lsd" issue.

I haven't launched the car yet (1600 miles on it) but I've slammed 2nd a few times, and let me tell you.... if you redline 1st and slam it into 2nd gear, 2nd is nearly useless! All it does is spin untill it's almost @ redline! then it finally catches, and it's time for 3rd. I can just tell already that I'm gonna have trouble hooking off the line. What is the concensus from other base owners? Are the base 1/4 mile times a bit worse because of this, or does th less weight make up for it?

Alot of this may just be because it was about 30 degrees every time and when I "chirped" 2nd the tires were to cold.....?
I'm gonna try a few hard shifts into 2nd tomorrow when it's warm out (daytime) and see if it's better.

I think an aftermarket LSD is going to be one of my 1st mods, so I'll do some searches on that tomorrow to fin out what the best one is....but if anyone wants to give advice/recomendations please feel free. That is the one option I was not aware the base didn't come with

thanks, ryan

LSD woud be very helpful at the track....and your not gona get much traction in 30 degree weather with stock tires....

I don't have any problems. Just pay attention to your shift is all. Going first to second I can either break out the back end or keep it in line. Just takes a little getting used to.

Yeah, the base does spin easier, but you also have a slight advantage on speed, once you get rolling.

The stock tires don't help though, especially in cold weather.

It is just the weather.......and are probably dropping it into second with the RPMS too high.

I have a base and in warm weather, redline shifts from 1st to 2nd are fine (with just a little chirp depending on how much gas you give it)

In cold weather (Wisconsin) don't even think about dropping it into 2nd with high RPMs, the tires won't even chirp...the back end will bounce and you will start fish tailing.

It doesn't have anything to do with the LSD. As long as you control the throttle correctly each situation you will be fine.

more likely u got improper tire pressure. Most of us have hard time spinning on 2nd unless its power shift.

yeah I tried it again today when it was warmer out and it was alot better. Just a little 1/2 sec chirp. What do you guys think the best tire pressure is for daily driving + good traction..?

Tires are important, but all that traction control crap is useless...People who are afraid of getting a base because it doesn't have it, let me tell you... Ihave 24thousand miles on my car and couldnt be happier, in fact I take a twisty canyon road 2 times a day(almost a 5mile stretch) to school and my car handles very well. I havent chirped my tires since I had about 9thousand miles on my car. Maybe its because I got better tires, Im not really sure, but I have no problems, there is a learning curve..1600 miles is not that many hours behind the wheel.

I'm talking about LSD. (limited slip differential) I could also care less about traction control. My car handles fine, thats not what I'm concerned about. It's traction while launching and shifting to 2nd gear. BTW- I'm not necessarily too concerned about the trction right now, but I will be modding it, and feel like traction will just keep becoming more of an issue without the LSD.

OH BTW my tire pressure is 37 in the front and rear. Any recomendations on a safe driving psi that still grips?? I was thinking about putting it down near 30...? Doe that sound ok?

Be carefull- powerfull rear drive spins out real EZ. Limited slip makes them break loose even Ezier. Most common acident in z, specially in rain or poor traction conditions. Had mine sidways a few times and am good driver. stock tires suck under 35 degrees. i put 19"ers with Toyo TS1s and satisfied but havent had real cold weather to test them.
