Default How big is the spare tire?

Does the Z come with a 17" or 18" spare (depending on what model you have)? Just curious...i've never seen spare tires that big!

I just hope whatever size the spare is that it is the same diameter as the rear tires. I don't want to get a flat on the rear and have to use the spare and end up burning up the LSD!

I hope that I never get a flat...I'll have to have a couple extra tires lying around just in case of this After having a boyfriend that couldn't change a tire, a VERY important checkmark for the next guy is to be able to change a tire (and my oil, and clean the car)...Nah, just kidding. But it would be nice...

Well, a 90 aspect-ratio tire sounds darn skinny to me. You'd have to run a calculation to figure if the diameter is the same as the normal tire, but I would hazard a guess that if you burnt out the LSD from a spare that Nissan provided they'd replace it or there'd be a big product liability lawsuit. With as many lawyers are there are out there making lawsuits about everything, I don't think its too much concern.

When I looked at the tire I thought it was a pretty reasonable spare and more substantial than many of the donut spares you see out there.

All men should be able to work on cars. Women should have that as a prerequisite to marriage.

Being that it's a Viscous LSD I don't think it'll hurt it to drive a few miles on an odd sized spare. If the LSD used friction clutch packs there might be more of an issue there. Viscous LSDs work sort of like torque convertors in automatic transmissions albeit with shear friction imparted by a highly viscous liquid rather than an impeller/stator which is more of a hydraulic power transferring device. There really isn't much to "burn up" in a viscous LSD.

Imagine two pieces of bread... Sliding one over the other is relatively easy unless you put them together with peanut butter in which case the viscosity applies shear stresses to each piece and they slide together more like an individual unit.

I was kidding! Although I did say it would be nice, it definitely would be nice, right? Having a second who is able to upkeep always is a good thing. I'm VERY independent and goal-oriented. If me wanting a guy who is "into" cars (able to change oil, knows how to Zaino them correctly, able to change a flat) is a bad thing, then so be it...

a quick thought.

If the spare tire is 16'' rim, it would have to fit over the calipers for the 17'' and 18''.

Keeping that inmind, i remember someone saying that the rays barely fit over the calipers. So the track model would ahve to come with a larger diameter tire. Right?

Or, would nissan just make two different spare tires? One fore the 17'' and one for the 18''

Diameters:

SPARE: 667.4 mm (26.3")
17" (F): 656.4 mm (25.8")
17" (B): 666.8 mm (26.3")
18" (F): 659.7 mm (26.0")
18" (B): 677.7 mm (26.7")

I don't know much about the effects of different diameters on LSD and such, but I'm sure these are within the limits of normal variation...you probably lose a half inch off your tires diameter over it's life from wear alone...
