Arrow Why such fascination with the 'Z' label?

Why do you think car manufacturers, and especially the people in their marketing departments, have had such an interest in the 'Z' label? We drive a Nissan Z. BMW has a Z. Cheverolet has a Z. There's the Z28, etc... I mean, why don't we all drive J's for instance? What's your opinion?

Hmmm... I think it just looks like a fast letter I saw a TV show about how much time, money and research go into choosing names and colors for cars. Pretty interesting.
And here in Canada, we pronounce it "zed' not "zee"

Nissan's Z is obviously cool. BMW's Z4 is just as cool. Chevorlet tried to tag along but failed... Obviously some cool cars are just made with the Z name.

Some letters like M, S, R, X, and Z just sound much better and more performance oriented than say U or H haha

I think you can throw any letter in front of a car name, call it a type, and people will believe its fast. "all new honda G type hatch back 110hp of pure adrenaline".

Z-rated tires = highspeed, performance oriented
Z labeled cars = built with highspeed in mind???

Honda Type R(ace)
Acura Type S(peed)
BMW M(otorsport)

Nissan/Datsun Z:
the charactor in Japanese, that resembles the roman letter Z, is called "Mugen", has the meaning of "no limit" or "infinity".

This is what an hour of reasearch got me. (for the Z), BMW I knew and Honda/Acura im doing from common sense.

I was gonna say zorro too haha

To go off your idea, since the letter Z is the last letter in the alphabet, as the saying goes..........

SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST!!!

Actually Chevy was probably the first to have the "Z" label. The Z28 Camero in, I believe, 1967?? so they could compete in the Trans Am races

Default Japanese Z Flag

A little history perhaps behind the Japanese Z.
*************************************

"Admiral Heiachiro Togo hoisted the Z flag aboard his flagship Mikasa immediately before engaging Admiral Rozhestvensky's Russian Baltic Fleet at Tsushima Straits on May 27, 1905. The meaning of the signal is variously translated, but seems to have meant, in substance, "The fate of Imperial Japan hangs on this one battle; all hands will exert themselves and do their best."

"Apparently the flag Admiral Nagumo hoisted on the aircraft carrier Akagi on the night of December 6, 1941, when he judged that his fleet had achieved complete surprise over the US Navy, was the same actual flag flown aboard the Mikasa 36 years before. As every Japanese officer and sailor would have grown up being taught about Togo's signal, this was a powerful inspiration which obviously had precisely the same meaning as that conveyed by Togo's signal. "

Default It's all about SEX...

Advertising research has shown that the word "SEX" has a strong advertising draw-- suggesting youth, vitality, virilness, strength, etc. But what's interesting is just the subliminal suggestion of the word "SEX", by incomplete spelling and/or rearrangement of the letters, invokes the same response. That's why you see a lot of cars with the following monikers in their model name:

SE
EX
XE
SX
ES
ZX
E
S
X
and of course:
Z (related to S)

It's literally all about SEX . And Nissan is one of the foremost users of this type of subliminal advertising. (Altima SE, 240SX, Pathfinder XE, etc). BrickydZ, makes one wonder if Nissan is telling the whole truth about how the Z badge landed on our cars. .
