We had our first up-close look at Center Line's new "rotary forged" wheel designed for sport-compact cars. The wheel starts as a 40-pound aluminum billet, which is forged between two opposite-spinning plates. (The "rotary.") This type of forging gives the aluminum a grain structure which enhances its strength. How strong? The left photo is an 18-inch wheel that weighs 11 pounds! (Typical 15-inch performance wheels are in the 14-pound range.)
