350Z --- Supra MKIV
Ive been debating this for a while now... i drive a 00gts and need to upgrade although the car is pretty quick and easy on the eye...
ive always wanted a supra... since i was 15 (7 years), but recently the z has definitely caught my eye... to me it seems that the z would be more practical at this point but i can't dismiss the supra...
the 350 looks amazing, definitely more modernized look, both interior and exterior. handles well and moves pretty quick, but isn't untouchable by any means. although i have a feeling that i would want to go f/i in the future (most likely turbo) which is atleast a 10g investment...
the supra is just a very well respected car that has very attractive features and can definitely move, no questions asked... if modified correctly, the car can be placed in the 11's easily with stock turbos...
now where do i go from here? handling? i think the 350 wins in that department. speed to the supra. looks go to both cars. supra can be easily modified to be as fast as you want it to be, while the z needs a little bit more of an investment. the 2jz motor can tolerate a lot of abuse, almost to 800hp while the z's vq would definitely need to be built in my opinion... the z is more well rounded in being more of a daily driver if needed be while i wouldnt even consider with a supra... the supra doesnt seem to have any major mechanical problems from the factory like i have seen with the suspension and tranny of the z... 350=new while the supra=older...
if choosing a supra it would be a 93.5-96 tt with approximately 70-80k miles for around 25... if a z, probobly be an 03 track with 20k miles or less...
every day my mind changes on what direction i should take in my choice for a new vehicle... any advice, comments, or hell even arguments welcome...
thanks for your input in advance...

I was in the exact same situation as you for about 4-5 months until I chose a Z about 2 weeks ago. There is too much to type here, but if you wanna talk about the differences, feel free to hit me up on AOL IM or something....I have talked to tons of Z and supra owner...even some that owns both...

Also gotta think about the pain of dealing with older cars. Its 2005 already... and when was the last supra made? 97 or 98... thats too long already IMO. Plus Supra used car prices cost way too much given how old it is. Seeing Supras on the street just doesn't impress me anymore, they are looking kinda outdated.

Z is the one NEW, Warranty, resale, performance & more
while the Supra Was nice it was way heavy..and way sloshy on the road & quite HP short. Of course you you could dpend $10 more to make it the car of your dreams only to test a Z and find it a better car. Superas heyday is past at least till they make a new one,,..... that I might buy myself.

The Supra is a great car. A friend of mine has a stock 6spd 94 twin turbo one. The exterior styling is nice, but the interior is ugly and bland; it doesn't even come close to the Z. I wouldn't recommend buying one simply because most people buy sports cars (like the Supra) to drive them hard, and I wouldn't want a car that has been driven into the pavement for 80,000 miles. My friend had to replace his clutch and he had some transmission problems. If I were you, I would get a Z, which comes with nearly the same straight-line performance, better looks (in my opinion), better handling, and the peace of mind provided by a warranty.

You know.....you answered your own question in your post. You really want the Z, like the Z, and trying to justify getting the Supra. If you like people to check out your car, you love the looks and keep looking back after you get out, love the performance, you will no doubt pick the Z Go for it, you'll be glad you did.

If you plan to modify extensively, your better off with the Supra to meet your hunger for HP.
If you plan to keep your mods light or stay stock, than your better off with the Z.

Just get both! 650rwhp supra = my weekend toy, 350z = my daily driver. The supra is easy to mod to get insane power. If you want crazy power, the stock block has been proven to hold right at 1000 rwhp. All that power is wasted on the street, so I set less lofty goals for my car. Went with a smallish 63mm turbo to keep lag down. I make full boost by 3500 rpm's or so and crack 400rwhp by 4100 rpm's.
IMO the car is defintely not outdated as far as stying goes, and won't be for quite some time. I get lots of looks in the 350, but people will snap their neck trying to check out the supra
Insurance is about the same on both cars for me.
I love them both, so I know it's a hard decision for you. I've not had one second of a problem with my supra, so the lack of warranty is not that big of a deal, but it is nice to know the 350 is covered if anything goes wrong. That's the main reason I drive the 350 daily.

If you're going to mod either car heavily, the warranty is going out the window.
I love the Supra but I was able to get an 03 Track w/ 8k miles on it for about the same price as a 10 year old Supra w/ 70k miles. I had to go with the newer car with the better warranty/insurance/etc.. Plus I just feel better having a newer car as opposed to something that has a 70k mile history I know nothing about.

Oh, and someone said the Supra fell short on HP........ahhh...I don't know about that.......0-60 in 4.9 seconds, and the 1/4 mile in 13.1 @ 110mph (STOCK) really doesn't seem "short" to me. With 326hp and 317tq from the factory.
Oh and then lets talk mods......OMG
But agreed, The 350Z is the car of "today", but is not quite in the same league as the MK4 Supra and Z32 from back in the day....those were "supercars" IMHO.

the styling is definitely NOT outdated.. it has the curvy wide look like the Z but IMO the supra looks better.
the Z can't even touch the Supra's interior. this was back in 1993 when they didn't really have digital components but everything inside of the supra is DRIVER ORIENTED. everything faces and surrounds the driver. a nice cockpit. same with the rx-7
the only thing that wants me to get the Z is because it's new. If the supra came out with the same styling with a updated interior buttons with the same interior design in 1993 for 2004 i would have definitely purchased a supra instead.

Ive had both for some time now and like you find it difficult to pick between them.
Supra driving position is much lower down and Ive always thought the cockpit is as good as it gets.
Ive done 130,000 miles in the Supra and one of the headlamps finally went last week, I doubt the Z would match that.
The N/A weight is about 250lbs lighter than the Z.
Also look at the number of service bulletins on the Supra it makes the Z look like a joke...
However the Z has better handling, more torque at lower RPM and is without doubt the best value for money performance car on the market right now.
I intend to keep both for quite some time.
Cheers
