Z is a good track car
So u guys know in an old car magezine i have i believe it is AUTOMOBILE they tested the track z vs the zo6 400h[, 911 320hp, and an m3 333hp. The Test was called david vs The Goliaths. While the z had the lowest 0-60 time it DID in fact beat the m3 and 911 around the track. It Had qiucker lap times than them. Understandbly it did not beat the beastly 400hp zo6. I tihnk that says alot. The porsche even pulled more lateral g's on the skidpad, yet the z beat it at the track
I've also seen a bestmotoring (japanese) movie with the z racing an m3 s2k and some others and the z came in first. I think thats saying something.
Although the numbers dont make sense the way the car was put together as a whole , nissan obviously did something right

I have that best motoring DVD and you're right it does smoke all the other cars, but I think they do that for every featured car they show.
Example: my friend owns like all of those movies and the one that features the EVO, the EVO dusts everything. And then you watch the one that features the STI, the STI smokes everything.
And it's not like they don't have the same cars racing all the time, 911, EVO, STI, 350Z, M3, sound familiar. Don't get me wrong, I love my Z, I just don't think that those videos are a good source of accurate info.

The exception to that would be the Best Motoring RX-8 video. It gets smoked by pretty much everything on the track (including a G35 coupe.)

Sure the Z is A-OK as a track car, but there are many cheaper and more practical cars that are faster around a track than the Z. Dont get me wrong, she is a great beast, but she is heavy and has moderate understeer and poor brakes. Also, N/A modding is like trying to get blood from a stone, it doesnt yeild much.

strange seeing how many Zs are in the high 13s stock, makes me wonder how they test these things...
Compared to track model:
EVO 8: 30k, one of the fastest track cars, cheap to mod, 4 door
STi: 33k, very fast car, cheap to mod, 4 door
S2000: 33k, much faster in the twisties, convertible
Mustang Cobra: can be had for cheaper, much faster about equal in the turns, Z might be a bit faster.
Also, many used cars. The Z is great, I loved owning one and look forward to owning one again, but it isnt a performance car. Its a jack-of-all-trades. Good performance, good value, good looks, and fairly luxurious.
Also, let me edit my previous post, it was a bit harsh...

The Z is an incedible track car. I raced mine at a track in Deming, NM a couple of months ago and it was just amazing. I was racing with a 2003 Ferrari 360 Modena and it was just behind it in all the turns, the straight-a-ways were the only time the Ferrari would really pull out in front. Just be careful with the brakes. I ended up melting my stock pads. Then again I shouldn't be racing with stock pads. Overall, I think the Z is the absolute best bang for your buck sports car ever.
