My roadster has yet to touch snow. Neva evea gonna do it. Thank God for company cars!!!

 

i live in philly and recently put snow tires on my car, had about 500 miles on them before snow hit. i thought the z handled as well as the old subaru outback i used to drive with all seasons. i think the key is just to drive slow, no sudden movements, i.e. steering wheel , throttle, brakes, slow around corners. btw i have enthusiast auto....

 

I live in south jersey and work in glenside which is outside of philly. I have a base with a manual trans. I also have snow tires. I had a hell of a time getting home last night. I drove slow and cautious. I had trouble a few stop lights. I had trouble with a few uphill and downhill streets. Do you think if I installed a posi traction rear in the Z that would help?

 

this may be a noob question but what do you mean posi traction....like a lsd???

 

I have summer tires, I can't get my z past 7 mph on level ground, I can barely make it up some slightly sloped street and have to go like 2mph to make it up... I only drive in the snow to get to the train station, I borrow my gf's altima to run errands in the snow.

Last year I was stuck on a fairly level road and the road was clear about 100ft ahead so I put it in first gear and got out and pushed and when it got on the paved surface, i jumped in the car and drove off.....very dangerous, but it worked and i looked slick as hell doing it...one small slip up though and I coulda got stuck under the car or it could have gotten away from me...I wouldn't reccomend it if you have two left feet or no health insurance...

 

Snow was falling lightly when I went into class last night, and when I came out, there was about an inch covering the ground. I've got Blizzaks for the winter, and they handled it with ease. The plows had been out all night, but even with that, it was still pretty slick in a lot of places. Like everyone else has said, they key is taking it slow and making no sudden moves. Low gears are a big help too...I've got a 5AT, and I drove the whole way home in manual mode at 3,000 RPMs or less.

 

I have michelin Alpinas...they are awesome I highly recomend them, def. a world of differnce. Last year I slid sideways down my street and I havn't had a problem since the tires. Also as far as everyone suggesting 1st gear...to my knowledge if you are tryin to get out of a parking spot or are stuck etc any dead stop situation it is best to put it in 2nd and feather out the clutch a bit if necessary, you will get less spin and a better chance of moving. I'm going to have to work on some sandbags before this weekend, looks like those of us in the tri-state are might be getting hit big.

 

I have Continental ContiExtremeContact and be driving back and forth between Boston and NH everyday. Haven't had a problem.

Only time I spun out was on a frozen bridge in PA at 5 mph, but just about every other car/suv/truck spun out.

 

what if you car is lowered would it make i harder?

Probably...the biggest problem there would be running into deep snow or possible going over a big chunk of ice and damaging the underbody of the car somehow. Of course, if the roads are clear, this is no big deal.

 

I tried several times in NJ with stock tires+stock wheels(Touring).
From my experience, it took around 20 minutes to get out from my parking spot in my Apt. Also, once the car starts to slide, you can't control your car that easy. So, I suggest to put Snow Tires or Chain for tires. if it's ok, then tow your car, call your friend(to pick u up:I did when I was in NJ) Now I'm CA, so I got no problemo~! Good luck with ya!~

 

In 4 wheel drive, DUH! Oh, my bad, wrong vehicel. Best advice is to imagine there is an egg (NOT HARD BOILED) between your foot and the gas pedal. Keep it in as high a gear as possible, to keep the rpm's low, and stay away from cameros!

i have the 03 base model and my Z is my only car.. so i have to drive if it rains or snows.. but usually in the snow i go drift around.. haHAhaha.. so much funnn.. dont think im crazy guys but i love driftin..

 

I am using Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSports...245/45 VR18 (199.00 each) and 225/45 VR18 (176.00 each)...NO PROBLEMS ...Got them from Tire Rack.

 

If you have to go up hill (slightly), then drive backwards.

 

I saw one on 495 as well. It was the first time my '05 (all stock) saw the snow, and it was SCARY. It has been years since I have driven a rwd car in the snow.... funfunfun

 

I live in so cal, so I don't know about snow. But my theory is that you could just floor it, and be sure to turn A LOT. Can someone test this out for me?

 

I am heading to Kansas City via Ok City from Albuquerrque.... I have checked the 10 day forcast.. I will be leaving monday and returning the friday of the next week. It looks clear.. a little rain but no mention of snow.... I have driven a rear wheel drive standard car before and know its troubles.... I wonder if my 350z is the same. More tire on the pavement than my 68 camero and more engine....

I wanna drive but if theres a real chance of snow I will fly....

Should I chance it?
