Default How bad is this?

ok, i went to fill up my car tonight and i don't know if it was the freezing cold or what but i accidentally put regular octane gas in my car. i didn't notice until it was about 95% full. ><

how bad is this and is there anything i can do to improve the situation?

would topping off my tank with premium every day be a good idea?

or am i just spazzing out over nothing?

help!

No worries! Your just glad it was not Diesel, Although I think you can't even fit a Diesel nozzle in a unleaded fuel tank, not sure though.

If you are that worried, hurry up and burn half of it, then top off with Super,

Just don't go ragging on it left and right...

Once the tank is empty, and you refill... you'll forget what you did.

Most modern computers will compensate with timing to work with the lower octane fuel. As a precaution, you could just take it easy and drive it off. Most likely though, it won't do a thing.

I would just siphon the fuel out asap. I figure if you burn through the whole tank, the gas actually made it through to every single part of the car for a good 300 miles right? I dunno what I'm talking about, but I personally would get a hose and start sucking!!!!

no worries. it's why your motor is equpiied with a knock sensor. when detonation due to the lower octane fuel is sensed, the knock sensor will alert the ECU to back off timing, increase fuel, or both to lower the detonation potential.

mistakes like this are to be expected, and engineered into the design as a byproduct of wanting the motor to run at the ragged edge of reliability.

Yeah no worries. You will just lose performance since the car knock sensor will make the ECU retard timing.

Right, aaaaaaaaand ....... if you've just noticed that your tire pressure is getting low - quickly place your lips around the valve stem and start blowing!

your Z is done and will never forgive you.
to make up for it you better start buying her some mods or else she's going to call it quits.

Octane booster is crap. Also shift early and don't dog it hard. A chunk of piston may fly off and it's not a good thing.
