Default 350Z is slow!

I love my Z and eveything, but sometimes the speed leaves you wanting more. I know it's not an exotic, but it doesn't really feel like a "sports car".

Am I the only one here brave enough to admit this??

You mean it doesn't push you back in the seat? I noticed that when I test drove it, but I still bought it because it's the best for the time & money.

I felt the same way. It is still a very quick car though and I feel like the looks make up for any lacking performance it might have.

Thats my excuse, lol, the looks make up for the lack of power.

Just enjoy what you have, mod it if thats your thing........

Default "Sports Car"

zmotion,
You must be referring to a "Muscle Car" as the 350Z is in fact a true "Sports Car". There are many sports cars that have less power than the 350Z! Power has nothing to do with it!

Anyone who feels theres a lack of speed in the 350Z should do what I do.

Drive a POS 86 Toyota Pick up when ever it gets crappy out as soon as you get in the Z and floor it..... trust me it feels good =)

same thing for my bike I forget just how fast my bike is after taking a break from riding it if I get back on it gives me that #*@$)$(*@_)#$( thats fast feel.

I think its fast enough for me. If this car came out in 1999 it would not have been considered slow. Sure cobras and z28's may still have been faster but thats about it. Now that STI's, Evo's and even the ford lightning are out the standard for fast has been raised.

I think its kind of funny b/c the Z has somewhat of a reputation of being slow since it can't match STI's and Evo's that people think its all show and no go. I have surprised a few Acura RL's and even one benz s500.

When I first got my car a buddy at work who drives the RL and thinks it the best car ever was asking me questions like, "is your car an inline 4?" and "is it front wheel drive?" He sure was shocked when I tore him up on the road.

That is when you know it's time for some Twin Turbo.

Or go leave a dent in your wallet and go get a zo6 vette. Seems like your taste exceeds 40k. If you got the money, heck why not? But if you don't have more $ to spend dont *****.

It doesn't feel like a sport car? hmm, i guess you have no idea what you drive, like many others though. Go get a Corvette then, good luck with the price though!

The Z may not be as fast as an evo or an sti, but I don't think you can call it "slow". I suppose it's all relative though. If you want a faster car, you're going to have to spend more money. Or end up with somethin ugly, like an evo.

The Z isn't exactly slow,13.8 1/4 miles for a stock car isn't that bad in my bood. Of course the Z is no rocket, but it's great for what you pay for it. I mean think of an 04 Mustang GT, they are V8's (not sure how much hp), but a Z can take one of them. I enjoy the low end torque of the Z,but always wish it was a tad quicker...

Let me clarify since we're already jumping all over what I said:

Of course the car isn't "slow". What I mean is that over time the "rush" of speed keeps gradually receding. I'm sure this is just me getting used to the car, but I am thinking of moving up in power. I don't like Vettes, but possibly the new Boxter S or SLK.

On the other hand, I love the way my Z looks and the power is right for the money.

Oh, and this is a forum, just posting my opinion folks!

How can you NOT like vettes and live in dallas? I didn't like vettes when I lived in houston when I saw maybe 1 a week. Less than 6 months in the DFW area and see 5+ a day they have actually started to grow on me.

The thrill of being pinned to your seat will disappear after owning any sports car...even an SL65, even a Carrera GT. The bottom line is you get used to the speed and take it for granted. The second something faster is available, your car will feel even MORE slow. The way to get around this problem is to focus instead on becoming a better driver - ie getting the car through turns faster, etc.

I hear ya!!

I feel exactly the same way. It's funny, because like someone else in here, it was what was best for the money at the time I got it. And I was trading up from a 176hp GTI VR6. So the Z was definitely a step up in power, but it never really felt like it. As a matter of fact, I remember being disappointed the moment I left the dealer lot on my first test drive. As you know, you have to kind of romp on it before you get any real power. And I didn't. I just kind of rolled up to speed. I got back to the lot kinda scratching my head trying to figure out where all the 287hp were hiding.

I still think it is better looking than most anything else out in the class, and even some other classes. But it's not "fast" in a dragrace kind of way. It does feel great in a twisty mountain road situation though. Much more than any other car I've owned. To me, that is the best way to enjoy it.

I would say that the Z has made it clear to me that I want a V8!!

Is it worth an extra 15k to you?

I have to admit that I was also disappointed with my Z's performance when I first got it in January of 2003. Although I have always been happy with the way it looks. I was especially disappointed with the car's mass, braking and overall power given how the last generation Z rated against the competition.

However, the longer I have had the car and the more I have modified it to compensate for the above short comings the better I like the car. Although I have done things to the car to make it lighter, it is still a heavy car. Personally, I think my mods have greatly improved the overall performance of the car and that is part of what makes me enjoy it more today. Plus modding is fun and gives goal oriented people like me something to do.
