Gotta "shift"
yeah mines like starts engaging about an inch off the floor. fine and dandy, and SLOWLY engages not enough to really go anywhere, but enough that it would grind. then at like half way it engages to like 95% in a few millimeters, and then finally it takes the rest of the way to lock in that last little bit.
I just kinda thought this was normal. and the shifter has a click or 2 depending on the gear before its really in the gear. youll notice that if your clutch isnt down you cant get past that click, like it you do it with the car off, and just try to put it into first, then that click becomes a lock.

Don't worry man. Fisrt you will get used to the clutch. Once you get it, its perfect. It was a little odd for me to for the fist 500 miles or so.
Second, the shifter is much stiffer when new. Mine really lossened up around 1300 miles. Once it does, its much easier to shift but still has that bolt action "snick-snick" feel. Also, this shifter isn't great when forced, just use enough to get it to the next gate.
