In the movie he says there is a reason for going with delorean but he is intrupted before we find out.

"The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style? Besides, the stainless, steel construction made the flux dispersal- look out!"

So the Z would clearly have some flux dispersal problems.

Yeah, I had the flux dispersal problem on mine. I took it back to the dealer and a 20 minute tweak to the flux capacitor solved the problem. It was covered under the warranty, so I didn't have to pay a dime.

There is a TSB out for the flux dispersal issue. It turns out that you need a shielded FAS (Flux Accelerator Sensor) wire. If the signal from the Flux Capacitor picks up too much noise from your stereo amp, the dispersal control unit fails to adequately pass current around the driver. More than one driver has been found dead in a tree with burn marks on their left temple from current separation. People with side airbags do not seem to have this issue. It's a darn shame that Nissan engineers didn't spend a little more time on this particular system. If they had, our car would be so fast from zero to yesterday that nobody could find us.

(I'm gonna go play D&D now...)

I should mention that this defect existed on the 2006 model Z's as well. Apparently, it will be sometime before Nissan decides to implement a fix at the factory. But hey, at least on equipped models, the warranty lasts for a VERY long time.

Nissan would have to fix the tire feathering problem before I'd make a time travel flight in a 350Z. Those flames left behind after a travel into the future(or past) are evidence that time travel puts a lot of stress on the tires. I wouldn't want to be misdirected into a 10,000BC Brea tar pit on account of a tire blow at 88mph.
