Default Is rear bumper fiberglass?

So a 16-year-old kid rear ends me at the stop light this afternoon.

There's a dent the size of a golf ball way low on the bumper cover and a few scratches, which look like scrapes in plastic.

Is this something they can "pull out" or is the whole thing fiberglass and will need to be replaced?

BTW - this will be the third time in a YEAR the Z will be in the body shop. I'm beginning to think the car is jinxed.
Thankfully, none of the repairs involved any injuries to anyone.

Not fiberglass.

And they usually have to replace it as they can't "pull out" plastic.

The 2004 Service Manual says that the rear bumper is made of resin (pretty much plastic), do not apply strong force to it, and to avoid contact with oil.

A little brake fluid and that will buff right out. . Your going to want an entire new bumper for sure.

The same thing happened to me and they had to replace the whole bumper. Good times!

Thanks guys.
I can't believe Nissan would design a rear bumper that can't take such a low-speed bump without damage.

That goes for every late model car with plastic bumpers. Not like the older cars with chrome bumpers which could withstand some impact.

the rear bumper cover is made of abs plastic (the same as with the front). I was hit on the bumper a couple of weeks ago...more like a scrape along the right rear side. I was lucky that it wasn't gouged or else I'd be looking at a replacement also.

You can't have a more impact resistant bumper, chrome, and keep the curb weight down. You can only have one or the other. They'll just have to make them faster so they can get out of the way of whatever is trying to hit them I guess...

Ya if it was fiberglass your rear bumper wouldnt have a dent in it, it would have a hole with fiberglass splinters all over the place..
