Hi-Fi Buys F***ed up my car
I took my car to Hi-Fi buys on Saturday to get a CD player and 4 channel amp installed in my car. I went to pick it up around closing time and they said they needed some more time to finish the install. I was like "ok, fine, take your time and do it right". I then went to pick it up around close on Sunday. I noticed that my Check engine light, TCS off light, and Slip light were on and I pointed it out to them. They said it shouldn't be a big deal, and to just take it to Nissan to get the ECU reset. Ok still not a big deal. I start to drive it off the lot and in any gear but first my accelerator pedal does not work! So i limp back to HI-Fi and tell them what's happening. They look over the car and can not find the problem. So Monday I have to take the day off work and i get the car over to Nissan.
Nissan looks over the car and they tell me that the wiring harness to the ECU has 7 wires tapped into it. They have to replace the entire wiring harness and the accelerator pedal because they fried my throttle position sensor.
It is now Thursday, and Hi-Fi Buys has not given me a rental car or even made a claim. I am going up there today and give them my demands, and if they don't want to meet them I am going to go talk to a lawyer.
Can anyone give me some advise, PLEASE......
PS- I have only had the car for a little over 3 months.

Holy crap dude. They should at least pay you for the damages or compensate you for your lost time.
Be sure to talk to the manager or supervisor and tell them what happened. If they are dicks & won't help you out, then you can talk to a lawyer.

Sorry to hear about this man. I would definetely be speaking with a manager up at hi-fi about this situation-if you havent already done so. For a second I thought they were doing donuts in your car cuz the TCS off light and slip light were on(which stay on after youve been doing donuts until you turn the car off and restart it) but I dunno about that CEL. Before you give the car to Nissan, just try disconnecting the battery, and then see if everything is fine. How in the hell did these morons fry your TPS? That sounds like some BS to me. Nissan is trying to get you to spend $$$$ on the harness. Sorry Im not much help man, good luck with your situation, let us know how it goes.

This isn't by any chance the Pioneer AVIC-N1 CD Player is it? That is the only one I can think of that they would need to tap into the ECU for due to the gauge functions of that CD player.
This was at the Buckhead store in Atlanta. I had them reset the ECU several times to no avail, and they even had someone come down with a scanner tool to clear all the codes on the ECU before taking it to Nissan. The scanner tool showed the TPS value as 0 even at 4K rpm. So I know that they wired it in wrong (directly to the ECU). I believe Nissan, and Hi-Fi has already gone up to Nissan to take pictures for insurance purposes, but they have not filled a claim yet because they want to talk to the installer. He has not been at work all this week because he was off for 2 days and then called in sick yesterday. I am really starting to get pissed.
I am going there today to speak with the store manager in person, and I hope he agrees with everything I am going to tell him. This is the 6th day I have been without a car and they really haven't done or offered to do anything.
Also, this is going to cost several thousands of dollars to fix(maybe more if they dammaged the ECU) plus Nissans $500 diagnostic fee.

In a way I am glad I got the BOSE, I am so sick of reading the horror stories of un-educated installers.
Sue the **** out of them.
BTW, tell them they better fix it right. They do have insurance for stuff like this, tell them they better use it and not cut corners.
BTW, the installer that did it, is fuked, they will more than likely garnish a lot of $ from his sorry a$$. Serves him right though.
GL!
Dam installer took mine for a test drive and was rear-ended,

If the guy gives you some technical BS you can't understand as to why he tapped into the ECU, tell him to eat a d!ck.
As for the ECU, the shop should pay for *everything*, based on what you've said up to this point. They are at fault and the installer is gonna get a slap in the face.
Off topic: OMG that Z is all smashed up! I thought that was a Chrysler Crossfire at first until I saw the wheels. The Crossfire's backend looks smashed to me.

OK, based on what you have said in this thread, you should demand that shop pay for everything. Don't listen to any of their BS. There is absolutely ZERO reason whatsoever to tap into the ECU for just a simple clarion CD player. Like the one poster said, unless the unit has gauges for fuel efficiency/ speed/ etc.. What exact Clarion model?

Thanks, I guess we will see what they say.
Man, this ought to be "pinned" and placed in the audio section of the board. What a nightmare.
It never occured to me when I had my stero replaced to inquire about how it would be wired and to avoid the ECU.
Good luck on getting it sorted out.

Hey Jmc,
Just curious, who was the installer? I have been going to the Hifi Buys (buckhead location) for 3+ years and I would recommend them to anybody. Tapping into your ECU 7 times for a routine Amp / CD player install sounds totally bogus. They should never have to mess with your ECU in order to install those items.
The HiFi Buys (buckhead location) is use to dealing with “HIGH END” cars (Lamborghini’s, Ferrari, BMW’s, famous show cars, etc.) So this is why I ask
who the installer was because for someone to make a huge mistake like that is rare unless they hired some new guy??
Good luck,
