Default Automatic Headlight Control on Z

Hi all,
I am thinking of jumping into the Z world to join the thrilling fun of driving. I currently drive 02 BMW 330Ci. I went to test-drive a
05 350Z touring model yesterday and fell in love with it. However, after doing some search on the car i have come across a question whether the car has automatic headlight control system. By which i mean, for 02+ 3 series, we do not have to touch headlight control at all. it will turn on by itself when it is dark outside. please enlighten me on this matter! TIA

I went from a car with auto headlights to the Z. It took some getting used to, but if you forget to turn the headlights off on the Z, they will shut off after 5 minutes or so.

If ya can't turn your own headlights on/off perhaps you should stick with the Beemer. The Z may require more dexterity than you pocess!

I don't don't think it's a real plus on a car w/Xenon headlights.

My 02 Maxima has an auto on/off position for the headlights based on ambient light levels. I almost never use it. That feature has been in there since at least the 00 models. However they made Xenon headlights standard on the 02-03... and well, the manual says it's bad to cycle them on/off a lot. So, I'm always paranoid that a cloudy, dark day and going under overpasses will cause them to cycle.

This comment reminds me of the first time I tested the car alarm. It makes the headlights blink on and off. Isn't this bad for the Xenon bulbs?

Well i happen to drive a nice car (work related Merc E 320) with Xenon, and i drive very short distances at a time, so my xenon lights get turned on around 20 times a day, and i did NOT have to replace the xenon so far, so i think that's not true, but maybe it does shorten the life of your bulbs, but not drastically, so i think there shouldn't be any problem by doing this...

Are you talking about the factory alarm or aftermarket? Because the factory alarm only flashes your blinkers.

I'm talking about the factory alarm. I'm sure it flashes the headlights doesn't it? Thinking that my Xenon bulbs were flashing on and off, I never tried the alarm again.

Thats not true, unless they changed it on the newer models. I have an 03 touring and my xenon's flash with my factory alarm.

edit: Now that i think about it, that is when i unlock and lock it, i've never seen the alarm go off so maybe thats what ur referring to.

They must have changed it because only my blinkers flash. '04 touring here. I can't imagine them making the xenon headlights flash with the alarm...maybe if it goes off but not when you lock/unlock it.
