I don't remember on my Z as I have an aftermarket alarm but I can tell you FOR SURE that on my 02 Maxima, when the alarm sounds (not the parking light confirmation flashes when you lock/arm), the Xenons DO FLASH. I've seen Acura TLs w/Xenons that do the same thing when the alarm sounds.

From page 2-22 of the 04 350Z owner's manual:
"The life of xenon headlights will be shortened by frequent on-off operation. It is generally desirable not to turn off the headlights for short intervals (for example, when the vehicle stops at a traffic signal)."

The exact same passage is in my 02 Maxima's manual on page 2-17.

Unfortunately, nobody in the US turns off their headlights while waiting at a traffic light... so what they say isn't THAT helpful.

I did notice on my second trip to Japan (and heard about the habit) that at night, many drivers DO turn off their headlights while waiting at a traffic light. When the traffic light turns green and it's time to go, they turn their headlights back on. I've read (but don't know if this is the real reason) that they do it to be polite to the driver on the other side of the intersection by not shining their headlights in others' faces.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant, the Xenon's do flash when the alarm is tripped. This is odd given that the manual states not to turn the lights on and off quickly.

Luckily the POS factory alarm doesn't false alarm much.

My 02 Maxima has an auto on/off position for the headlights based on ambient light levels. I almost never use it. That feature has been in there since at least the 00 models. However they made Xenon headlights standard on the 02-03... and well, the manual says it's bad to cycle them on/off a lot. So, I'm always paranoid that a cloudy, dark day and going under overpasses will cause them to cycle.
True. My 03 expedition has them and I leave it on auto all the time. On gray days I end up turning the auto feature off because the headlights are constantly cycling.

I have an 03 touring and only the park lights flash when i disarm/arm my alarm.

How is the factory alarm triggered besides the door switch? Does it have a shock sensor?

Doors, hood and trunk lid. No shock sensors that I'm aware of.

I am actually glad that the lights aren't auto. I hate not having control of them. It just bugs me when I get out of someones car and the lights are on. "Your lights are on." ..."They are auto lights, they will shut themselves off." ...*shudder* lol And I also heard that the more your lights are turned off and on the shorter the bulb life. And I don't want them turning on when I don't want them. May be weird but it is the way I am and I hope if I EVER get a car with auto headlights that there is some way to shut that feature off.
