They are probably trying to help you out. I don't know of many people your age who would be able to respect a 300hp RWD automobile. I was a teenager once too. If you buy the car, then good for you, but please be very careful.

If you want my honest opinion (which you wont like ) I would suggest getting something a bit less expensive for around $10-15k and using some of the money you've saved to buy other things (college?). Odds are eventually you will regret parting with that much money for a car. There is plenty of time to buy toys... but again, that is just my opinion.

I went in with a 01 Frontier and came out with a Z paid a difference of 11,000. You're young that shouldn't matter but i will say that the first two weeks you will wanna test it out hard. It was the most worrysome time for me. After I found out what it takes to get sloppy on the road I have respect for it and actually enjoy people ohing and awing over it more than wanting to see what it can do at every chance.

I will say this. This is the first car i've owned that draws a crowd every where it goes and is so fun to drive you never wanna get out.

I don't know about other parts of the country but so far in montana and canada i've seen 2 G35 coupes and only One blue enthusiasts with a bra on it. Im happy it is a unique car that still has some notariety unlike the STI.

Is it really that powerful? I mean, in mind, I'm like , if it's that powerful, then I'll just press the accelerator really slightly so that the car doesn't fly. I mean, I know at my age, it's really hard not to speed cuz of all the adreraline, but I when I buy it, I will always tell myself: I've busted my *** for this car, I pay more than 600 for it , so I won't just go out and be reckless with it.

P.S -- how much do you guys pay for gas monthly?

gas mileage isnt great, but not terrible either. I get about 17 miles to the gallon when driving hard and up to 28 when cruising on the hwy. If youre driving it as your daily driver for distances, expect $200 per month in gas avg. If its your weekend toy, 100. This is just my estimate. I am also in New York and 93 octane gas is about $2.25 a gallon. Whereas my corolla seems like it has a bottomless tank. $10 bucks a week and I can drive FOREVER!! I would highly suggest that anyone who buys a Z(especially in Snow areas) has a daily driver/beater car. Keep the miles down on the Z. I bought my corolla AFTER I got the Z. Paid $1500 for a 95 corolla with 125K miles. It sucks. It's super slow. It's ugly. I hate it. But, I never have to wash it. Don't have to worry about it getting scratched or stolen, and it gets insane gas mileage. I just hope it holds up for a couple of years.

The money I was going to use is sitting in a mutual fund focused on Canadian resources... I think my return on that was around 20% last year.

I am 100% pro leasing. Especially on a car like the Z or G35c that has great resale value. I am also anti down payment since if you put a huge down payment on your Z drive off the lot and it gets totaled the insurance will pay off your loan and you will have to fight to get that down payment back.

I didn't lease my current Z b/c I wasn't sure what kind of miles I would be driving. I had just moved to a new city with a new job and didn't have things figured out yet. However I think next time I will go with a lease. I think I will tell the dealer to take the new car to this local car audio shop and have the windows tinted and the stereo upgraded and have them roll that up into the lease payment.

I didn't have time for that this time around. I was driving a bucket that needed to be replaced ASAP.

lol i think my answer was pretty positive. I just said if you can swing the payments and afford gas/oil/tires/brakes/insurance go for it. I don't know what your going to be responcable for. When I was your age I didn't have a nice car like the Z but my parents took care of gas and insurance for me if i took care of everything else. It was there way of helping me out but making me pay if I crash.

If your paying for all of that you need to add up about how much you think you will have to pay per month and If you make enough per month to cover it and thats what you want to do go for it. Like I said before don't put a down payment... and if you do make sure you have enough money saved that you can float your payments for a few months, don't put all your money into the car thats going to lose $2000 in value the second you drive off the lot.

What is insurance going to cost you? I'd imagine it will be insanely expensive...

It'll be probably like 140-180 if I put the car under my dad's name and I get listed as a driver. Damn, so expensive.

Don't put a downpayment UNLESS you plan on keeping the car for a long time or add to your paayments. Unlike houses, Cars obviously don't appreciate in value. For example... My 2003 Z touring 6MT sticker was 34k. Now, with 19k miles, its only worth 25K private sale, 20K trade in. with a low downpayment and average interest rate, YOU WILL OWE ALOT MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH. So, If you decide you want a different car. You will lose a Sh*t load of money on a trade and have to roll it into a new loan. WHich would really hit you on the second car. Or, You will have to throw savings into it to pay it down to what it is worth and then sell it privately. THat's why a short term lease is a good option for people who like to change cars and don't have alot of money saved. Also a really good idea to buy a PREOWNED CAR that is 2 years old as it has already taken the worst depreciation hit.

Man *** a big down payment, I put 5K down and just paid double every month. Get a low interest rate and get the damn car. I didn't touch nothing to get this car. The damn dealer just gave it to me and I didn't bring them a check for a month. I have been paying like double every month so I can get rid of the payment but a set of Volks, Custome S wing and some springs just put this months double payment into the crapper.

Yeah but my problem is that I do not earn that much a month right now because of school. I get like 550-670, summertime 800+
But when I get my job at best buy or somewhere similar where I'll get more , il get like 800 on school time. ANd i cant get a different job right now because my parents do not allow me to drive their cars.

I mean you guys say but it now without a downpayment, or with the 5000 dollars I have, If I do that I'll be paying a lot just for the monthly payment. And my parents said I have to pay for everything.

If I buy it with like 15000 , then I'll afford it easily. So do you still suggest the buy it now option?

man, if you're only making 800 a month, then i would SERIOUSLY consider getting something else. I's great to have a cool car and all, but you shouldn't be working JUST to pay ofr a car. I drove shitty cars most of my life and it was no big deal. The Z is my first real nice car. I traded in a 99 sentra to get it. I liked my sentra, but I was in awe by the Z they had on the lot and pretty much bought it on impulse. difference is, I take home alot more than 800 a month......but, I'm also 30 years old.You should buy a 10k dollar car. Integra, GTI. FWD, goes in the snow, etc and bank the rest and just enjoy life. You will probably grow to resent your Z sitting in the driveway and sucking away all your money. Great car, but as with all cars, the thrill fades fast. I hate to be negative but I would hold off a while. Remember that the Z isn't so cheap on gas, 2 tires will cost you $500. At this time in your life, I think its better to concentrate on other things. Also, in 2 years you will be able to buy a used Z for like 15k. How about that???

how much do you have to pay? will your parents help with gas and insurance? $800 a month is just enough to afford a Z + Gas + Insurance + oil/tire/brakes so almost all your pay check will go to the car. Means no mods and very little spending money on the side.

I had a 2001 eclipse that I was really into and I had a beater to save it from the winter. I test drove the Z and that day the eclipse went up for sale. It was a 2001 GT Premium. I wanted to sell it so that I would have no car payment or insurance ALL winter to save up for a down payment. I saved up like 7k. I am putting that down on the car and picking it up here VERY soon(I ordered the car.). I started saving in August. It is FINALLY almost here...so excited.

It looks like you'll be working to pay off your car and not have much left over for anything else... maybe follow the numbers being quoted by the other members and set that aside for a couple of months... if you can still live comfortably, buy the car and you'll have another grand or two for a down payment.

Good luck on you decision.
