Default Twin Turbo?? From Nissan as Option? Yes or No?

Hi all,

I'm new to the Z world, am thinking about ordering one....but before I do, does anyone know if Nissan will come out with a Twin Turbo Model? I sure would love to have a Turbo and if they are going to make one, I might as well wait....

BTW, You all have awesome cars..they look great

Thanks in advance,
Ant

A Turbo Model has not been released or announced but I would suspect that in 2 years Nissan releases one,
Making about 370 hp
Very fast

hmmm so you guys really think nissan is stupid enough to do EXACTLY what they did to the 300ZX? right...

no there will not be a TT option, they have compromised in MY opinion by offering NISMO who will sell a supercharger. or they could do a TT from the factory so they can bump the car up into the 40Grand area, and shut themselves out of the market again...

as for personal wish, I hope not, cause then wave bye to our resale value. who wants the NA supra, 300ZX, or RX7? exactly, nice car, but they arent the real thing.

I for one would be pissed if nissan pulled that crap off, cuz then we'd have the "sucky" model. I m sure that the twin turbo VQ will come in a GTR

Yes I do. The 300ZX was a one-off chassis and literally a one-off motor (although other cars used the VG motor, the VG in the 300 was significantly different and even moreso for the twin turbo). Furthermore, Nissan had to do alot of engineering work on top of the 300 to accomodate twin turbos. I'm thinking since the 350 has a more spacious platform and if they kept the VQ motor intact, then a factory turbo would not be overly expensive.

I can name off a few things off the top of my mind that would account for at least $2g's to the cost of the 300ZX [twin turbo]: true dual exhaust system, dual throttle bodies, adjustable suspension, Super-HICAS, NVCS (Nissan Valve-timing Control System), the brakes (4-piston fr/2-piston rr). Factor in the cost of the parts *and* the cost of the engineering.

In 1996, a 300ZX non-turbo cost around $36k and a twin turbo cost around $40+k. If GReddy has a twin turbo kit available for the 350 at around $5k, then imagine what adding twin turbos from the factory would cost Nissan. If they took an Enthusiast or Performance and turbocharged it, how much more do you think it'll be?

And yes, after owning a twin turbo, I want to go back to all-motor (or supercharged).

Michael.

One of the salesmen that I was talking to told me that Nissan was coming out with a twin turbo model in a couple of years. I didn't believe it, even though the salesman seemed to be pretty serious about it, and he was obviously a freak. He had his Silverstone car in the parking lot.

I could see a single turbo model in the future, but I seriously doubt that they would come out with a twin turbo model, since it would put the Z at about at least 400 hp, and would probably be only about $8,000 more. That would definitely hurt sales for the much more eexpensive skyline.

The previous 300ZX Turbo, the Z31, was a single turbo V-6. Buick Grand Nationals are single turbo V-6's.

Yeah, it can be done. To make really huge hp, some MKIV Supra owners replace the twin turbos with a huge singe turbo. Can't remember which one, though.

Supra's were inline 6's, not v6's. But you're right about switching from twins to a single

Oh, thanks for telling me that, I always thought that the Supra engine was a V-6. You learn something new everyday.
