A night at the dragstrip
If you've been sitting around thinking, I need to smell burning rubber while hearing deafening sounds, get yourself to your local dragstrip.
BigBadBuford (Black Track) invited fellow Z owners to join him at the Cecil County (MD) Dragway last night, and at least three others were there, including myself and (I think I have this right): machiazzz (Brickyard Enthusiast) and FBlade1 (CS Performance). Everyone except me ran (I'm still in the break-in period), all acquitting themselves admirably, mostly in the mid 14s.
The fellow Z owners were all nice guys. We traded Z info and stories, admired one another's cars, and generally had a good time.
I took some pictures. This is FBlade1.

Ares,
Sorry, I didn't make notes of the times. I didn't see all the runs (each of the Z guys ran two or three times), and not being one of the runners, I didn't have the motivation to remember the details.
I'm sure the guys will post their times.

It was nice meeting some fellow Z owners at the track last night. Cecil was supposed to be really good, but I was getting terrible traction. I was disappointed with my ETs, although I was happy with the trap speed. The best I ran was a 14.4@100 with a 2.48 60'. I had TERRIBLE wheel hop on that run. It was an hour and a half wait between runs so I think the tires were getting too cold which didnt help me out. If I can get the 60' times down to the 2.0 range, 13.7's or 13.8's shouldnt be a problem. This was my first time launching my Z and I have to say it didn't hook nearly as well as I thought it would. Before I got the Z I used to race a '95 240SX with no limited slip and worse tires and I could pull a 2.2 60', but that took a decent amount of practice and this is the first time I ran this year.
I don't feel too bad losing to my brother, his car dynoed at 597 hp/568 tq at the flywheel and ran an 11.95@114 last night. I have a '72 Skylark 455 too which should run low 12's, and that makes a lot better drag car than the Z. After doing both an auto-x and a drag race in the Z, I can say the Z definitely feels more at home at the auto-X.

Those are some great pics commasense! Thanks for snapping them! I will agree that hitting a good reaction time and placing a good 60' time is difficult to do. Fri night wasen't my best or worse time as of yet. The best time was a 14.55 I placed about a month ago. O well keep trying right!? Keep in touch and thanks to BigBadBuford for getting us together. I know some great roads around Baltimore so some weekend well have to get together for a drive. Take care.
