The 1200 will go by fast, take it on long trips on the weekends. Also important to vary your speeds so don't use the cruise control till after 1200 miles. No it won't hurt your car that you violated this rule a few times but I do believe they put that info in the manual for a reason so be mostly good for the rest of the 1200.

My suggestion, drive it how it's going to be driven from the day you get it. The highest N/A 350Z so far (well, in the top 5 at the very least) drove his hard as soon as he got it.

Manual says not over 4 Gs for first 1200 miles. If you go over a few times it ain't gonna hurt a thing.
And ignor the village idiots who propose "drive it hard from the get-go"; I doubt they know more than the guys who built the car. Plus I don't see them offering to pick up the costs if damage results.

I am waiting to 1000 to keep it under 4000rpm. I was even talking to the techs and sales people at the dealership that sold me that car. They said, jsut wait 1000 and do what you want lol. And oneguy was just like I have never listened to those rules and I have never had a problem with any new car I have ever bought right up until the time I sold them. And I bought a big warranty. So my car is completely covered, bumper to bumper and drivetrain for the next 5 years+. The way cars are competing now over style and power, I think I may be looking into a new car by then so I don't have that many worries about skimping out on the last 200 miles. Only once did I go over 4000 and it was to 4500 lol. I LOVE this car. 
I am currently at about 680. I have a feeling that this weekend I will break that 1000 mile mark. woo hoo lol

The topic of how to break-in a new engine has been discussed and debated over many many times. I cannot draw a conclusion based on the arguments. In my case, I suspect Nissan has the budget and resource to do a research on how to do a proper break-in. So I choose not to argue with the people who build the Z and exercise my patience during the factory recommended “break-in” period. And yes, it was very hard to keep that baby under 4000rpm.

I would follow the no faster than 4k RPM rule, even if others say it's best to drive it hard. I've read a thing where the guy said it's better for the piston rings, but he never really mentioned the rest of drivetrain, like the transmission and differentials. And like others said, nissan built the damn thing, I think they would know what's best for it. I don't want to risk the dealership trying to say I drove it too hard and refusing to fix something as a result. I highly doubt anything would go wrong either way, but I'm not gonna risk it.

Just don't maintain the engine speed above 4000 rpm for prolonged periods of time.
Some incursions in the higher rev won't hurt and may actually help. The engine sees lots of wear right now, make sure all the lenght of the cylinder is being reamed (At higher revs the piston will travel farter along the cylinder). You may increase your peak rpm gradually so that you reach red line when you get to 1200rpm. (Don't baby it till 1200 miles and then go WOT to the rev limter at 1201 miles...)
The engine has been broken in at factory anyways. I'm more concerned with the rest of the drive train. The gearbox and rear diffs will also mesh a lot. My Z has 1100 miles now (got it last saturday) and the gearshift is way smoother than when I picked it up! I paid a lot of attention to be smooth and not force it. And took care not to go WOT at all during the first 6-700 miles.
