Unhappy Transmission problem? please read

Hey guys,
I just purchased a 350z a couple weeks ago, and while driving today, my right hand slipped and accidently pushed the shifter from 4th to neutral. I did all this without pushing the clutch. IS THAT NATURAL? My right foot was on the gas pedal the whole time and the left was resting on the side. I know you cant do that in other vehicles, but is it natural for our car? Thanks in advance for the response.

Wrong, you can do that in any car that has a manual transmission. What you did was push on the gear lever at a time when the gears were not loaded. The gears are not loaded when the car is not accelerating or decelerating. So if you are coasting along with your foot lightly on the gas you should easily be able to pop the shifter out of gear. By the way, this is how you shift without the clutch if you so desire (or are driving a race car). You simply push on the shifter the instant you release the throttle. Try it sometime, you're not hurting anything.
