Default Chrome rims - is this BS?

I asked my dealer if he could switch out the Nissan 18" chrome rims on the Z I'm buying for the standard rims. He said no because it would involve too much labor and they have to break down the wheels including the tire pressure sensors. Ultimately he said I would only save about $600 by switching because of all the labor costs. Is this BS?

I'd like to possibly sell these rims. How much can I get for them aftermarket? Can I trade them in on a set of Nismos?

Just ask him to swap them from another stock unit. That way there is no mounting or anything, or find another dealer. We do swaps like that all the time at the dealership I work at.

Aha! I knew it...I'm supposed to pick the thing up tomorrow, but I'm calling him in the AM to see if he can do it. How do I get around his comment of the labor to switch them out and mess with the tire pressure sensors? How hard is it to disconnect them, then reconnect the other tire sensors?

Hunter, you wouldn't be interested to trade your 18" Nismo rims for a set of the chrome Nissan plus some cash, would you?

If it were up to me I would make the deal, but the dealership owns the wheels, not me. I'll run it by my parts manager and see what he says though and if he is up for it I'll let you know.

also it would probably take about an hour and a half to swap tires and monitors over but they would probably just swap the whole set up off another Z which would take about 20 minutes

if they swap entire sets, it's just a matter of re-programming the computer for the new TPS sensors. If you find out how much this is I'd be interested as I have a second set of wheels with TPS on the way.

ok, just to clarify what you're saying....To just swap my 18" chrome Nissan rims/tires with a set of stock 18" inch rims/tires, it's only going to take him 20 minutes? I'm going to have a conversation with the guy in the morning and I want to have some solid facts to take to him as to why he should take those rims...and about $1600 off the price of the car.

In what scenario does he have to reprogram the computer to the new TP sensors? It's the same sensor, just mounted on a different rim, so why is there reprogramming necessary?

Also, are the sensors already on the wheels and come off with the wheel, or do they have to be disconnected because they're attached to the body?

Same happened to me. Went to the dealer who had the EXACT car I wanted. It was sitting in the showroom but had some noticeable "showroom wear and tear". You know...people lean on it, brush past it with jewlry, cleaned a lot with bad materials...etc...

Anyway, it had really nice 20" rims and they had just recieved another shipment containing an identical car but with stock rims. Asked if they could put the rims on the brand new Z sitting out back. They said it would be no problem and that they could have it ready the next day around 10 a.m. They call around 9 in the morning saying that they couldn't swap the rims because the VIN'S wouldn't match! WTF? That is the biggest pile of BS in the world!

Long story short...found the only other car like that in the state at a dealer closer to my home than the first and bought it there. Still have stock rims but at least I got a decent honest dealer that isn't gonna feed me all this BS to try to get me to buy a car that's been sitting for 5 months.

Interesting....so anybody got an answer to the tire sensor issue? Is the sensor attached to the wheel or the car? And how long will this take to swap out the tires for a set of stock 18" wheels with tire sensors already mounted on them?

He may not be doing it because the wheels he will be removing from another Z are listed as OEM on the window sticker of that car. Dealers hate to do stuff like this and they usually never do unless you pay them. Hey, business is business!
