Question Order now or shop in January?

In January, our family car will be paid off and I will receive a bonus that I will use for a down payment. I'm wondering if it would be better to order now or wait until I am ready to buy in January and shop around then. It sounds like 3-months is the average order wait, but then I hear about orders getting bumped into future months due to allotments, etc. It also seems that production is starting to catch up with demand.

Any advice? - I live in San Diego and will be buying a base or enthusiast.

IMO you should probably order now. Sure there may be cars available right from the lot next year but chances are they will be the higher priced models. You have to considered what you're willing to pay and what color/options you'll accept.

You're right that it will be a 3-4 month wait but you'll get what you want not what's available. I don't see the prices coming down, if at all, until the '04's are out.

well, 2 things to consider, first, you live in california, the car mecca. finding a Z on the lot there will be difficult. second, you want a lower priced model. you might come across an enthusiast. but for the most part, dealers are ordering touring, performance, and track. theirs a bigger markup on these I believe, and I think touring is the number 1 seller, with track behind it. you order the cars with the largest potential buying population.

for these 2 reasons, Id order... but Id be sure to talk to people and see if their for real. and read the contract VERY closely. your not in presale area anymore, the dealers could screw you pretty good at this point.

Default Same situation

I'm in the same situation. I'm waiting for a bonus and won't be able to do anything until March. From what I'm seeing there will be some available by then. Plus I could change my mind(doubtful). It the RX-8 wasn't so ugly I would think about buying one of those.

If u want to be able to pick what u want order now...if you don't care which Z u get nor color you could wait...but it will probably be a hassle trying to find the car at a good price and close to what u want...
