Default Launching w/o slang

I have an 05 enthusiast and am fairly new to driving a stick. Every search i do for launching techniques goes on about feather this, dump that...I attempted what i thought they were talking about with no luck. So could someone tell me in standard terms ("push the gas in" "let the clutch out" ect.) how a good launch is executed. That way I can get some growth goin with my driving skills. TIA

On street tires what I do is has parking brake up put clutch in rev to 2500. At the same time release parking brake, clutch and press down on gas. Race tires I do the same thing but just at 3500. The purpose of the parking brake is so if the surface isn't perfectly flat you don't trip the timing lights.

Assuming we are talking street tires here...I know on my stock 17's, any amount of rev above 2k results in wheel spin. Instead of feathering or slipping the clutch to negate the wheel spin, just launch at a lower rpm. You'd be surprised how many jokers you can beat off the line by simply letting the clutch out smoothly with the revs just above idle. Once the clutch is out floor it and let the torquey VQ pull you through first gear and on.

That's one of the advantages of the VQ powerplant - not having to rev the bejeezus out of the motor to get into a peaky turbo or vtec powerband. While they are spinning their wheels, your car is already on it's way down the track.

Not to mention how much easier this is on the clutch!

The only time you should have to launch at a higher RPM is when you know you have significant amount of grip on the driving tires. That happens in only one place -- a drag strip. Everywhere else you're going to be managing tirespin.

Once you start the tire rolling, it's significantly more difficult to break the tire loose (spin the tire).

Yeah man, TCS stands for Tires Cannot Spin.......but will make you think you broke something very expensive...

My opinion on launching......get in the car and while in neutral and the clutch on the floor start slowlyt letting the clutch up until you feel a distinct friction point(about 2/3 from the bottom... you will confirm by stopping your foot at that point and pressing back down slightly...it will feel very stiff) DO that like 300 times until your left foot/leg gets a memory for the friction point...now with the car in first start accelerating when you foot is a little before the friction point if the clutch.....as you practice you will master taking off w/o over revving or excessive clutch slipping...you will lauch crazy.....UNTIL somone moves your seat....or you change from boots to work shoes.....but you will master it over time......THEN u can rev drop to 3000 and when the RPM's hit1000 start coming off the clutch and gassing the BEEEECH...that what I was taught when I drove a diablo.....great on street racing
