Default Personalized Plates in Texas

Does anyone know if there is a website that allows you to search a database to assure the your personalized plate name is not already taken.

I've browsed the TXDOT website and can't find it. I thought someone had informed me otherwise in the past.

I don't believe there is. I looked for this as well and could only find the application for a personalized plate. It requires you to choose a first choice as well as up to two alternate choices and send payment in with the application. If the plate is not taken and it is approved, they will send it to you, if not, I guess they just send back your check. Doesn't sound like the most efficient process to me, but that's the way it is. I don't have the application I printed with me, but if you want the site I got it and all the info. from, PM me and I'll get back to you with it tonight.

Default Called TX DOT

TX DOT told me that they could check one or two for me to assure they aren't taken... so I guess this is the next best thing.

I have the application, but didn't like the idea of not knowing which one would be approved.

Thank!

I just sent you a PM, BigZ. No website, but there is a number you can call at the Special Plates Division. They will look it up for you to see if the personalized plate is available.
