Why do some Z owners hate the Base model, ill tell you why!
I pre-ordered the Super-Black Base 6-speed manual of course. I will tell you why. But first I started this thread because I have read some responses from people and it seems everyone on this site has either a track or touring model. And they seem to talk about the base model like it is a crappy car. Well....
Well first off, I think the base is the best model because it is the fastest model available, because it has the same engine, but it weighs considerably less than all the other models. Also, I compared the models together and I wrote down the differences(what the base does not come with) and I figured something out. Nissan is charging about $9000-$10000 more for all of these things which wasnt that much.
I then went to an after market shop and priced the same things, probably better because its aftermarket, and it only came out to around $6000. But I dont want all that crap anyways because thats what weighs your car down.
So please respect the Base model, because one day you might have to race one...

I think the base model is great. It's just that most people here prefer some of the extra perks, without having to go find it aftermarket.
I personally ordered the track b/c I wanted the Brembos, diffusers, etc. It's all about "to each his/her own!"
But happy motoring, none the less!

I don't think I have seen a post where someone knocked the base after all its the same car. With a few minor differences.
If you look on the spec site www.nissandriven.com you can see.
Wheels, Halogens, Track-control, VCD. Those are the major differences.
However look at the price 26,500 msrp for basic. Jesus that is a good deal especially since I can pick one up for 26,800 (my dream is comming true I got the call from the dealer).
The Track is nice however personally I will end up with my own wheels on the car so there is no point to go with the stock 18'. The base model leaves me with room to play around. And I am happy that the difference are small.
If for example the Track was 390 BHP and Basic 287 bhp then it would be a different story.

I remember reading a post stating that " if your getting a Z, dont waste your time with a base model" But anyways, I like all the models, I just chose base model because I like to work on cars wit aftermarket cars and its easier to work with. Altough I like the rims that the track comes with, there tight.
Oh to answer the question of why some people dont like the base. ANS= Its the fastest Z of all the models.

I personally think that the Enthusiast model is the best value for the money. You get everything on the Base car with Xenon headlights, TCS, Homelink, autodimming mirror for still under 30k. That's a heck of a good price for a sports car.
Forgot the LSD and cruise control too...

I like the enthusiest personally. even tho I have a touring, see for 2grand the enthusiest gets LSD, xenon, cruise control. those 3 options are worth way over 2 grand. and because of the LSD, the base will not be the fastest model, the enthusiast will. while everyone else can launch at 3500rpms cause both tires will grab, the base will have trouble since only one wheel has to spin and your crap outa luck.
anyway, with that said, I have nothing against the base, its a Z, and thats plenty.

Like everyone else said, nobody puts down the base. The fact that you brought it up shows that you're trying to justify your purchase. It's a 350Z--be glad you have one!

I cant remember ever seeing ANYONE talk bad about it... I hope this isnt just insecurity on your part. The base model is very cool - ready to mod the way you like it.

(Im still baffled by this thread)
I like the track because money means nothing to me and I don't care if it is a good value or not. Naw, not really. It was ALL about the aero, wheels, brakes, LSD. I'm too old to go around with after market wheels. Hell, I even got Nav, which I absolutely love by the way. When I buy something that I may someday want to trade or sell, I always lean toward the top of the line. It is always easier to sell because it has everything. Who is going to turn down a car because it has forged aluminum alloy wheels that weigh 12 lbs apiece and DVD Nav. I can hear it now, "that stuff just weighs too much. I will have to say that I think the track probably weighs less than base with the wheel upgrade.
ares said it pretty well. LSD is BIG! I don't think people look down on the base. It's just too easy to justify the upgraded models if you have the money to spend. After weighing the options, and aftermarket prices, the Track fit the bill for me. Again though, the value of a LSD is huge and that is why most buyers choose a different model over the base.
perhaps someone is jealous of not getting an LSD, big brembos, volks, TCS, VDC, zero lift, HIDs, neat pedals, home link, and cruise??
but seriously. you have a good point. if you are going to modify the Z, you'll probably be getting new suspension, bigger brakes, a body kit, and proabbly upgrade the lights and tranny, when you do that, then yea, the money you saved on not getting the track will put you either on par or exceed the performances of a track edition,
but, then you also might be paying more so for it than just getting it factory STOCK, AND factory WARRANTY.
hell yea i will go to the track with my Z, why? cuz if anything fails, its covered under warranty. if i had base and modded everything myself, i'd void my warranty and i'd be left to pay for anything that happens.
but yea. you're about $10k richer than i will be with the same looks and same power.
more power to you, but i guarantee you i will love my Z as much as you love yours.

Well you can't break warrenty just by changing wheels can you? Same goes for installing hallogens or breaks.

1. Nobody on this forum has ever put down the base model.
2. The base model is NOT "considerably" lighter.
3. The track model has a lower coefficient of drag which will
make more of a difference than the minor weight difference
when you are travelling fast, so the TRACK model will be
the fastest at, say, the quarter mile.
4. Calm down.

The "Blows" stereo that everyone is complaining about--- Would have been replaced anyway.....no need to "blows" the money on an inferior system than I could get aftermarket for equal money.
The 18" wheels--- Um...just not my style...would be replaced regardless of what came on there. May as well save the money for aftermarket parts or jsut use a set I have now.
VDC-- No need for foofoo HICAS in my opinion.
Brembo Brakes--- I will have a much better system for less money...when I get em I'll take pics
