I've been down-shifting on my Prelude for almost 78k miles now and my tranny shifts just as good as when I picked it up.

Racing a vette eh? Either he was going easy on you or most likely didn't know how to drive it. I have raced vettes with my old 1997 WS6 Trans-Am lightly modified to 360 rwhp and the stock LS1 vettes would trounce me on the highway. Aerodynamics plays a large part for the vette too. My car did 0-60 in 4.8 seconds (not bad for an LT1 engine) and the 1/4 mile at 12.8 @ 111 mph. Not fast mind you but not slow either.
One thing I will say though is that the build quality is allot better in our Z's than in any GM piece of carp. Hell, Fords have better quality then GM and that's not saying much. LOL (My OPINION ONLY - NO Flames!)
Cheers
