Default Custom 350Z...very custom...

Got this email today...

Being debuted at the major shows this year. Still waiting on some specs, it came through a friend of mine's shop. Look like everything was converted to drive-by-wire though.

WTF!?!? How are you supposed to drive that thing. Looks like you might need a pilot's licesne to operate it. Very interesting... I'd like to see more about this.

Dayum...that's insane!!!

I guess this is the Gamer Fanatic Version since it has a joystick instead of a steering wheel .

Drive-by-wire, is instead of mechanical, it uses a wire to control something. It's electronic, everything is processed by the ECU before it will do anything. We have throttle-by-wire on the Z.

You steer with the joystick. I haven't gotten an email back from him yet, so i'm not sure what setup they chose to drive it. They could have went with pedals and a paddle shifter.

I'm glad it looks so clean on the outside though. It looks awesome! (the wheels aren't great though)

Now thats pretty damn cool. Joystick to accelerate, brake, with two buttons to upshift and downshift! Control of the car with just one hand!

Does it fly and come with missiles?

I would think it would be harder to comtrol with just a stick. It's very easy to overcompensate with a joystick.

Although I guess it's really for show rather than function.

Yeah, it's a show car...but i'm sure they are going to do a demonstration.

Just looked, it doesn't have any pedals, so acceleration and braking are done by a button as well.

Well the Z is already drive by wire, correct? So that is a sweet idea on a setup that already exist...I like the idea, it would fun to drive a care that way for a little while, but I like the steering wheel too much. Impressive

I am very interested to rear more about this. I saw this beetle on TV where the guy took out the steering wheel and somehow hooked up steering control to his electric mirror joy-stick on the door. It was funny to watch him drive it.

That's a crazy car. A little too futuristic for my tastes, but an impressive technological display.

arlington...no, it's throttle-by-wire. BIG difference. I don't think ANY car currently out is drive-by-wire. GM's new design will become popular very quickly though....can't you imagine buying two or three body's and driving the kids to school in the minivan and going by the dealer to switch the body to your corvette shell. (it uses a frame that contains everything, and it is drive-by-wire, runs off of hydrogen but I think you could come up with something such as an electric engine)
