My Z Sucked an Entire Plastic Bag!!!
Right after exiting the Beltway, as I was rolling to a red light, my car stalls. Hmm, seemed damn strange to me. I push in the clutch, turn the key, the engine turns over fine, then stalls after 2-3 seconds. After trying for 3 more times, I tell my buddy to get out and push. We get it to the shoulder of the road and do a walk around, a quick look under the hood, and everything looks fine. We give the car a couple of minutes to "relax," and try again. No dice...****!!! I had no idea what the problem could be. O2 sensor? Fuel injection? So I get the car towed to the nearest Nissan dealership and after 2 hours they return with my air filter. Take a look see....
My car sucked an entire plastic bag (the kind you get at the supermarket), and the bag actually made it to the air filter. I guess when I gassed it a bit hard after the beltway exit, the force of the bag against the filter actually ruptured the filter. That was the point asphixiation for my V6. Damn! Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?
The service manager told me that this was a VERY rare occurrence, and that I was quite lucky...They ran a full diagnostic on the engine, and no plastic made it into the engine. I'm considering myself lucky...it could have been much worse! What scares me the most is if I stalled when I was doing 70-80 on the beltway. No power steering at the speed can't be a good thing (and after hearing from some of you pop-charger guys, it's scary as ****).
Anyway, thought you guys would like to see some pics of the evil bag and the force that it created against my filter. And to be on the safe side, check your filter often!!
peace,
Holmes

Man, ripping through the filter like that... crazy
I've had a similar bag situation like this before with one of my older cars where the car just died on the freeway. The only differences were that the air filter didn't get torn like your's.... and I was running a CAI

that's pretty crazy about the bag thing though - at least it was just the filter and nothing else.

Yeah, that's pretty crazy. The bag would have to go through your grill, squeeze through to the opening where the intake is, & get sucked inside . What are the chances of that??? Just glad it didn't suck any plastic in your engine.

Yeah, I guess I feel a tad on the simple side for not checking the filter when I was on the shoulder...I just didn't think of it. Even if I did find the bag on the filter while I was on the road, I'd still prolly take it to the dealership to get the engine checked out. The last I heard, plastic in the engine is not a good thing .
I took an in depth look this morning at the path the bag must have travelled to get to the filter...it's utterly insane . Such is my luck with cars these days...

i found like half a sheet of newspaper in my filter box once. just happened to be checking things out, but i guess it wasnt bad enough to stall the car. I got a popcharger after that incident.
