I would have to agree with thawk that the Z does not appear to get better gas mileage than the Vette. Maybe even worse. Now the extra HP of the Z06 may eat up a bit more gas, but...

DO IT!!! wihtout a secondthought!!!
500 hp going to burn more gas than 280, it's inevitable, unless you always drivi with maximum fuel efficiency in mind. Those values are poor indication of real life gas consumption.
Depends a lot on your driving style. Me I don't buy a sportscar to shift at 1500rpm :P. Rented a Z06 3 years ago for a couple weeks. I used to fill up once a day(1 full tank per day) Just driving around in the city and work I was getting maybe 6-8mpg average.
If an extremely modded Z can keep up... a modded Z06 will blow almost anything to mars.

Do it, fool. The Z06 (especially the new one) is in a totally different class (both price and performance wise) than the Z. And anyone who says that a modded Z can keep up with a new Z06 is living in a dream world. From the times TT people have posted, a Z06 would hand the Z its @ss on a plate with all the trimmings.
And for all you people complaining about gas mileage, what are you thinking??? "Hmm... I could have 500 hp, but I'm more concerned with gas mileage." I didn't think we cared so much about gas mileage since we drive 350Zs, not insights/priuses.

I don't care about the 500Hp, I just don't like the exterior or interior design of the car. You can get 500 HP out of just about anything now a days.
I mean **** we just saw on this site an EVO with 601 AWHP that would hand that Z06 a good *** whipping.

It probably all comes down to personal preference like everything else. My two cents is that when I decided I would get a "sports car", I eventually narrowed my way down to either a Vette, the G35C or the Z. I ended up with the Z partly due to price, looks and bang for the buck. I ended up with the Z because that was the right choice for me. The performance, workmanship and value just can't be beat IMO.

That's one well off redneck....
The Z and the Z06 are in different leagues. Pick your price range, and if the money isnt a big deal than go for it.

Honestly I don't understand people who change cars every 2 or 3 years or people who lease for that matter. There are some people who are forever making car payments. I bought my first car in '94 made payments for 4 years, drove it for 6 more years w/ zero payments and then bought my Z last year. I plan to pay off the loan in about 3 years and probably drive it 2 more and then get a new car, which I plan to pay for with cash.

no way
i dont have a z yet but if i had one there ie no way way id trade it for a vette, one reason is around here drive around for an hour and see 5 vettes no zs.plus i just love the looks and everything else about the z,to me it just fits me style wise.but everyone has their own opinion and thats good cause otherwise there would be zs everywhere .my uncle has a new bentley continental gt and the only reason i would trade him is that with the money i could get out of the continental i could buy a new z and have as much money as i wanted to upgrade it.but thats just my opinion.bottom line is if you want the vette and have the money, get the vette.but it is only 350z for me.

Coming from someone who is around both cars 24/7, i'd take the Z06 hands down. One thing you might want to think about though is are you ready to take care of such a car? When my room mate first bought it he lost sleep for the first few days after he bought it. He kept looking out the window and going into the garage to look at his new car. Taking it out to places you have to valet it to be safe or park far away from wherever it is that you are going. Typicall the same things most 350Z owners, like myself do, but with the vette, its a whole different feeling. It's an icon status that the Nissan Z's just dont have. I say when I'm 40, i'll get mine. Shortly thereafter, I'll get my 7-series BMW.....but until then, i'll keep dreaming.
It still wouldn't get a vette, I would get a used Viper if I want "wheel spinning" horsepower. The next M5 will have 500 hp I know it's a heavier car but if your looking for status I think the M5 (especially the new design) looks better than the vette, IMO. everytime the vette comes out with a new design it's always a big deal for about 2 months after it hit the show room then it's just a big POS american sports car. For example, if the vette was a V6 which would you choose the vette or the Z(V6) , now if the Z had a 500HP V8 like the vette which would you choose?
