Wink went to the Dyno Today

I have only 3 runs in the Dyno,it was closing time, My runs went this way:

All run with 93 GAS, only MOD K&N and 3000 miles.

1) 243 HP- 239 TQ in 5th
2) 246 HP- 241 TQ in 5th
3) 251 HP- 245 TQ in 5th (In this run I put my Secret weapon, wait 1/2 a hour a put a bag of ICE on top of the "Intake manifold"
the car run so cold that gave HP, I done it with all my cars in the past, I know is fraud, but at least I know what HP the car have when you just start the engine haha, I dont recommend to do it every time, the car is not supposed to run so cold.)

I will go again next week with more time to run!

Actually it is pretty close to being right on the money. 15% drivetrain loss is calculated from the crank, therefore, if you take 287 * .85 (which is a 15% drivetrain loss) you get 243.95. 243.95 HP is basically the exact figure he got on his first run. From these figures, the Z's stated horsepower might be considered a little under-rated. (meaning - it might actually have a few more horses the 287)

Good work WebCar, that is some sweet information

15% drivetrain loss off of 287 is 244. His first two are right around that.

All run with 93 GAS, only MOD K&N and 3000 miles.

1) 243 HP- 239 TQ in 5th
243/.85 = 285.88 HP
239/.85 = 281.17 TQ

2) 246 HP- 241 TQ in 5th
246/.85 = 289.41 HP
239/.85 = 281.17 TQ

3) 251 HP- 245 TQ in 5th
251/.85 = 295.29 HP
245/.85 = 288.23 TQ

His #'s are right on... except of course, for the "secret weapon" which made the 3rd run a lot better. I'm taking my car to the dyno sometime within the next week. I'll post my results, and charts, once I get them.

That's probably because the car was dyno'd in 4th gear instead of 5th (5th has a 1:1 ratio)

Just wanted to add the following...

The average of his first 2 runs (since they aren't affected by cooling the intake manifold):

For HP
(243 + 246)/2 = 244.5
So, 244.5 / .85 = 287.6 = Advertised HP

For Torque
(239 + 245)/2 = 242
So, 242 / .85 = 284.7 = More than Advertised Torque

Good #'s, thanks for sharing WCC. Just curious, did you do any runs without the K&N? If so, what #'s did you get?

on the other hand, he had to add a K&N and 93 octane to get factory results. I am dissapointed...i think the Z may be more around 283-285!

Our regular "super" gas here in TN is often 93 octane, although a few brands are 92. I doubt a drop in K&N would help that much in the stock setup.

I dont change the K&N with the stock filter, but I heard that the K&N only gave around 1 HP if you are lucky! the other thing is that we only have in P.R. 87 or 93 Gas, of course I always put 93 on the Z. I dont think that only 2 oct. in the gas can gave a car 2 hp or more!
I believe that the TQ is a little high I have to check with my friend (owner of the Dyno) the #'s again, he dont give any printing because he dont have any paper at this time. but I gonna go and Doble check and hopefully print some Data. (I'm very sure about the HP, its was that results)

I think Phoenix is referring to the GM 15% drivetrain loss when an LS-1 rated at 300hp puts down 300hp at the rear wheels.

A stock 300 will put down around 244rwhp and they're rated at 300hp. *shrug*

Michael.
