I still own my 97 GST and still love that body style, It's quicker than the Z and fun to drive. I still like my Z better this new eclipse would have a better car if it would've been made just like the concept With the 460HP, but I guess Mitsu don't have the money for such a car.

 

For the price of an 06 Eclipise GT, you can either get a base model Z which has more HP and RWD or shell out roughly an extra grand and get an Enthusiast model OTD.......

I'm not too sure how well the Eclipse GT with a 28k price tag will fare, let alone the lower Eclipse model kind of infringes upon the RSX Type-S.

 

I think it looks pretty good; a cross between a Mitsu FTO (front) and the 2nd gen Eclipse (roof line, C-pillar)

It's HEAVY for a car in the FF sporty coupe category though

 

Certain angles look really good. But overall it looks like 2 gens ago.

 

Yeah, real races happen on the highway.

I'd like to see an Eclipse follow a Z around a track.

Then I'll laugh at the Eclipse owner as his FWD pig of a car terminally understeers into a pile of tires.

 

The new model looks like crap. At least the the concept looked half way decent. Also the price is outragous at 28 grand. Anybody crazy enough to buy that over the Z is completely stupid IMO! The older gen with the GST were awesome they should have gone back to something like that. I bet their sales go down even more with the release of the 06.

After owning it for 3 years, I decided that I would enjoy the car payment a lot more by placing it on a Z Combine that with some major torque steer and it was curtains for the 3G.

I dunno...They want to sell the '06 eclipse @ 28k when there is also the evo VIII RS @ 28k or for a couple thousand more Evo VIII MR @ 35k?? I myself would not buy the Eclipse at that price. We'll see how they do I guess...

 

its going to cause mitsu to have even more medicore sales. they should have made it RWD, and they could have found a market niche.

 

No competition for the Z looks wise or performance wise.

The Z shouldnt be worried about the Eclipse.

Speaking of traction. Its been 2 months with my 996TT and wholeheartedly am all about rear end traction. WHile i miss the tail out shennanigans of my Z, when you pull up on a turbo and it hits full boost and takes off...there is NO wheelspin...Just 590mm of rubber launching off a carrier deck whilst you sit there with your pathetic FF burner...spinning your tires.



But then thats prolly *cool* in your book!

OMG!!! Ive never seen the new Mitsu until just now. After looking at that car, I now understand why they are a failing company. I would take a loaded super charged edition Scion TC for 21 grand over that crap anyday. Looks nicer anyways.

Based on the picture, I'm not feeling it...except for the bulges in the fenders, it reminds me of a Dodge Stratus/Chrysler Sebring.

My fav thing about my car is the previous owner splurged for the $9k FULL FULL Leather kit. Everything in the cabin is lined w/ leather (except the plastic buttons) console, speaker covers...its sick really.

This car really represents an epiphany for me. I *almost* got an NSX, arguing that 911s are too common, not that fast, blah, blah....even before my $2k 80HP chip upgrade, the TT is a real beast - yet comfortable as ever. I initially lamented the AWD - "its for puss drivers". In reality, 420/500Hp plus porsche's 959 derived AWD is killer. 95% to rear until the system sensed slip. The PSM is totally undetectable. No SLAP on the hand like yopu get with VDC. I'll never forget a test ride i gave my buddy - 150mph in a donwpour hitting all kinds of sweepers and switchbacks...truly incredible.
Its been my dreamcar since a kid in high school 1989. Anyhow, yeah dreams can come true and all that disney BS.
