Default changing gears without clutch on 6mt?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid post to you, but I'm just wondering, I've heard people show off saying they can shift so well they don't even need the clutch. Is this really possible or is it just my stupidity for believing that?

Thanks for any input u guys.

it can be done, just have to find the right shift points and be willing to experiment. On my 2000 Boxster S I could shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd no clutch, but I knew the car was a lease so I didn't mind playing around to find out

i do it quite a bit... outta lazieness, sometimes outta habbit ( sincei hardly use a clutch in my Tractor trailer)

The only way it seems to work in the Z is if you stay LOW on the RPM's and are gentile.
it WONT work if you are accelerating / decelerrating fast, or try to skip shift,

if more of listening to the engine but its definatly low RPM's

shouldnt hurt it eaither IF YOU DONT GRIND!!! heheh

Yea, it can be done if you can feel out your engine enough. I don't think it cuts down on acceleration since you're still shifting, but like people said, you won't be able to do it while your acceleration is high.

Can be done, just takes a bit of time to get to know your car and its shift points. I do it, without any grinding of the gears. Any car can be shifted in this manner.
With the Z the key is to not hit the gas too hard - you seem to shift around 2k. 4 to 5 and 5 to 6 are almost impossible. I can get it out of 4th but not into 5th.

There is no "show off" factor here, as you are gonna be moving slow, so, not a fun nor fast way to drive this car.

Yup easily done no matter what speed as long as you know when to shift back into gear. RPM wise. If you want to down shift from 5th to 3rd with out using the clutch you just have to make sure when you pop the car into N you blip the throttle to match the RPMS with the shift point.

So if you shift at 6500RPM first into 2nd it can be done you just have to be fast enough not to let the RPMs drop below the normal shift point for 2nd gear.

easy. if you know your car well.

P.S I see no benifit of shifting with out a clutch. so theres no point of doing it.

However, Ive had clutch issues with past cars and have learned to do it rather easily =) even on the 350Z

Yes, can be done. Takes time to learn. You know your close to being an expert after you find you can't shift gears without grinding......even with the clutch. Syncros don't tollerate abuse.

Like poking yourself in the eye until you can do it without blinking. Why?

Saves wear and tear on the clutch.

I do it all the time. I learned it on my old '91 SE-R a while ago. It is NOT that difficult at all. Actually pretty simple. Pull it out of gear as you let off the gas, gently lean it back (but not too hard). It will go in by itself when the rpms match the car speed in 2nd gear. In my opinion that's the simplest way to learn. (I suck at write-ups, hahahaha)

Holy crap! Are you guys joking?! I've been driving stick for years and I never thought you could do that. I mean I've pulled it out of gear a few times without the clutch, but you need it to put back in gear. right?? Man...I hope you guys aren't joking because I one of those stupid people who will actually try it.

i do it when i'm in traffic and tired of pushing the clutch over and over. although for some reason 5th gear never goes in without grinding.
